how many sites?
Heh I couldn't help noticing the tongue in cheek posts re "my websites"
how many do YOU have?
does it give ewe a bigger profile or are they mostly just "sleepers" that peeps stumble upon occasionally-there have been a lot of new sites spring up recently from "Ning"
some just stay up for a while then quietly disappear-
we have
IACmusic.com
Amplifier.co.nz (our local NZ)
Reverb Nation(ray porter is there)
Ezfolk.com (folk / accoustic)
isound.com
IMGlobal
Red Bubble
Alterhit.com
Facebook
Myspace
U-tube
It seems to me that the only way to get plays is to be ACTIVE on that site and build a base
IACmusic.com I$ our base-Ezfolk has a good niche audience Utube and Facebook are useful-most of the others are neglected LOL

At last count, I had music profiles on 19 sites (not including the ones that CDBaby established). Some sites work, others don't. I want to be the 'album in the cut-out bin' that you always run across (which explains the tire-tracks on my shirt).

I have:
My Own Website: www.broad.ology.org.uk
IACMusic (of course :-))
myspace
facebook
lastfm
youtube (just recent)
I have minmal content at a couple of others Eventful springs to mind, and some auto generated pages on listing sites,
Seems like you can only really be active on one or two, so I'm not expanding any further at present.

I've actually got no idea at all..I always used to post a couple of songs on every new site that sprung up and then never went back to them..Think i'd have to do a google search to find out lol

I'm probably up near 20 or so myself, Rob.
The odd thing is the sites I'm most active on are ones that aren't really artists sites ... meaning they don't have artist pages; they're more tech oriented production discussions.

Steve Ison ---said "I've actually got no idea at all..I always used to post a couple of songs on every new site that sprung up and then never went back to them..Think i'd have to do a google search to find out lol "
heh ---we have done that too --i just don't know how to find those ones so i didn't count them---
Steve (SRM) and BJ are the two musos I constantly meet on various pages ALL over the 'net---i guess we like to spread the love (music) !!!

Sad as this may sound... I had to go to an Access database to keep track of all the sites I am on. There are a handful that I work regularly, but I am of the mind that I should be any and all places that will accept me. You just never know who might stumble on you and enjoy what they hear.
But that's just me, and I can be a little loopy!
LOL
Peace,
Nat

My old Band STICKY PISTIL is all over the place, I dont even remember where.
I stopped paying attention a year ago or so...

Lol Nat and Never '---
It boggles the mind to think how many "dead" pages there must be even on a site like this (quite busy) ---there will be hundreds of pages put up that have never been revisited-----(-like debris floating around in space)
sometimes I go to the very last page on the all genres charts----not necessarily bad songs ------just forgotten and neglected

http://www.purevolume.com/rayboozer
http://www.reverbnation.com/rayboozer
Back in the day, say 2004, purevolume got us a ton of traffic. Even more than myspace. In a few months, we, a nothing high school band from Birmingham, Alabama, got about 30,000 plays and 162 fans. But now it's practically deserted, except for the huge post hardcore/ emo bands.
Reverbnation is our current home base. It's a very well-done, useful site. The one flaw is the lack of a music store.
Facebook is my home base for personal relationships, but as far as music goes it's just a means of reminding people that I have a band and sending them to the real pages.
I hate myspace.

Hi Ray
yep there are so many sites ---some just peter out!
Reverb nation seems like a busy place ----but it lacks a "centre" a meeting place or market place
--I get heaps of e mails from them---talking about widgets and fanbase stuff that i simply don't have time to follow up
Myspace is just useful as a starting point to learn about "sites"
iac is the best i have found for talking to other musos ----

I post on every site I find, in hopes (I guess) of finding more "listeners", and your right! Most of them generate little to no listens. Myspace gets a lot of visits, but less listens than IAC, I think because people are only there to get added to your page. Some people even embed players, so when someone visits your page, their damn music blasts over the top of yours.
I must be a glutton for punishment, because I keep sending tunes through the review process of GarageBand, to get repeatedly slammed by bands new to the site who think that, by berating other's music, theirs will stand out more.
And LastFM? Forget about it! I have accomplished giving away 5,000+ free downloads, however...Sheesh, I wonder how many of those I could have sold? God knows I need the money...Oh well, it's art...I guess.

Maybe those 5000 give aways are the catalyst that will lead to a new bunch of FANS listening to and digging the Hunkafunk sound-----

I have a site that I have had for 10 years now and it has had well over
one million unique visits and maybe 5-6 million hits .maybe more.I have to go and check my stats again as I have not been there in 6 months to check. i also have pianoteacher.ca as well as pianoinstructors.com and voodoohead.ca and have a number of others as well
one is for business, promo, bio and teaching services and the other is for basically informational services
there are other music sites i belong too as well
anyways, who really cares

Bryon-----I do-----! lol
seriously ---i think it helps put things in perspective, as to how many sites are just 'sleepers' and how much "debris' there is floating on the web---and where our energy is worth putting---
---and why we come to IAC (most days)
Now if we had a site with over a mill----I'd be there every day----how come ewe lost interest?
we had a site where we were selling-- and getting lotsa plays over 90,000 (www.cruxy.com)
had risen to the top 20 bands on the site-----and it just folded,--- in one week it was gone
