a poem
to a friend who died too youngTo Tim!
The Long Horizon
In the map of my heart
a tracery of directions
transcending time and distance
I place you there, Tim
in a dual universe
where bones can knit and heal
where pain undoes itself
and life flows backwards
into your breath
there is a long horizon
a sea of indigo broken by spray
we sit together on the cliff
amongst the nikaus
we both know the earth is round
the sky will not fall
the vanishing point
is not the razors edge
in the map of our minds
there are no directions
only pathways of memory
making doors that open and shut
releasing life in small bursts
the aroma of woodsmoke and coffee
the rise and fall of laughter
in a ramshackle cottage
between nikau and limestone
a panorama of blue and green
memory lets go of linear perspective
and it's not that far
as the crow flies.

That is beautiful and powerful.
Would you mind if I make a copy of it, and put your daughter's full name on it. I would love a copy of it; perhaps post it on my son's website. It's truly touching. Thanks for sharing it. xo deb

beautiful poem, brings to mind a bit of keats...
"O brightest of my children dear, earth-born
and sky engendered, Son of Mysteries
which met at thy creating; at whose joys
and palpitations sweet,
diffused unseen throughout eternal space...

Death and Life---Life and death
-----being a farmer in the middle of Lambing I get a bit of both ---each day
Tim was a junkie, but his addiction began with an accident (broken pelvis)
in hospital he became addicted to morphine and it all went downhill from there--
he was still a young man---sad!
