Had a conversation with my dear friend this evening
He's got a brain tumor. Had an operation. Cut his skull open. Afterwards, he had to relearn how to play guitar. Something that's been a big part of his life.
Life sucks.
Buit then, there's afterwards.

I am mortified by the thought of going under the knife like that. My sympathy is sobering.

I had an inoperable brain tumor in 1994. They killed it with chemo and radiation. It was a harrowing experience but I made it. They said it was hereditary because my father died at age 32 with 5 tumors on his brain. They operated thinking it was only 1 but when they opened him up they found 4 more. They just closed him back up and he died the next morning. I would have been more devastated if I had known him. But he abandoned me and my brother when I was 3 and I didn't see him again until I was 13 and went to his funeral. So, for me it wasn't so bad. I was pissed off at him for leaving us with the crazy woman that beat us until we bled profusely every single day. I ran away and didn't come back when I was 14. That crazy bitch would make us get naked, tie us up and beat us in our privates. Surviving her shit made me strong as hell. Some days taking a pee felt like being stabbed in the groin. Yeah, it wasn't so bad seeing him dead. But I digress, sorry that your friend is going through it. Hope he recovers fast. I did and I have been tumor free ever since (knocking on wood). Your friend will be stronger than he ever was after this. What does not kill you makes you stronger.

That's tough to get through - hope your friend's health improves each day and that he plays guitar better than ever soon.
Stoneman - only half serious about this, and don't know if you even believe in reincarnation, but I swear, you must have spent your last life as a totally spiritual monk or something secluded in some lovely mountain top isolation because this time around you have had to experience every damn thing Planet Earth has to offer - running the extremes from beyond awful to really wonderful. Incredible ....

I had brain surgery in '05.
Non-cancerous tumor (but obviously not benign, or they wouldn't have had to remove it). I have had some after-effects, of course. But, I've been mostly okay.
