And then along comes...
As ALJ said, Mary! I mean, the Association.
Any body appreciate them? I listened to their first album A LOT in college. Along Comes Mary itself, I thought was great. Also, a pretty odd hit song. I like odd, no one would have guessed, huh? So this was Terry Melcher (Doris Day's son? Can't remember for sure, did not Google), some other guys, and Gary Alexander. Alexander was the real oddball, his songs the most out there, and the one who appealed the most to me. Of course, he left the group. I can only imagine myself in his place.
So, anyone else hip to them?

The Association
Sagittarius
The Millennium
The Fifth Dimension
all of those bands came from the same basic group of people: producers, musicians, etc., in different combinations, with different singers/faces representing them. A bunch of those guys worked with The Byrds, too, particularly Melcher and Curt Boettcher.
Great stuff.
And yeah, I love The Association, and that song.

And then along comes Lesley....
(come on, you were all thinking it)
This is, what I will call my 'follow up day',
that I will allow myself on the Pipeline.
Basically, I am limiting myself to one visit (which includes said 'follow up day')
to the Pipeline. This is because, as I said, 'less is more' with me.
I'm sort of like Beef Stroganoff. I'm absolutely yummy and delicious,
and I'm also a very rich dish, which you couldn't possibly eat more
than once in a month anyway. So this is for the best.
The verses, to 'Along Comes Mary' are quite intricate,
and almost impossible to hear, go check the lyrics which
now through the magic of the internet you can see several copies of,
and they whip by like crazy, very poetic.
As for why it's a hit, come on,
it's the chorus, they can say anything in the verses,
and if people sing along, it's 'da da da da da... games they play...'
if that. But wait till the chorus, and then EVERYBODY ROARS IT:
And then along comes Lesley!!!
Uh, I mean Mary.
Okay, let me see what else I have to do a follow up tag to...
Oh, let's not forget their biggest hit ever,
"Cherish".
I'll admit it.
That song makes me cry.
I could kill myself to that song it's so f***ing good.
Oh GOD.
