MP3com- it just hit me full force, it's been over 16 years...
ago that I discovered it and started posting there.
Incredible.
Some of you weren't born then.
For those too young, MP3com was the first big place on the Internet where musicians of all kinds started to congregate, as well as tons of non-musician listeners, a sought-after elusive target nowadays. 16 years later....man, Michael Robertson was the biggest fuck-up ever in the history of the world.

Amen, Dan.
Funny how his idea of MyMP3 is now the basis of so much online music, books and other entertainment... and yet he got crucified by the bigs....
Maybe he just ran out of money for the lawyers... he almost made it, having settled with all but Universal. They ran him into the ground and with the help of the evil Hillary Rosen (lawyer for the RIAA), killed a great site.
And if it weren't for guys like Scott, it might have ended there.
Thanks for the post.

Yeah, you're right.
He should have known what would come, though, and been prepared.
Fucker made out alright for himself, though. He did have that in mind.

That was the greatest time I ever had online, that is the legacy we compete with. Not the soundclouds and reverb nations which every time I visit I wonder why in the hell anyone would use that as their primary site.

It coulda been much much more. It could have changed the world, for better, our musical world, anyhow. Instead, we've got the heap we've got.
