Sign up here if you've been cut from the third round :D
I signed! :P
I don't wanna hear any damn complaints about it, either, you whiny bastards. It's just a way to let us know you noticed.
If they cut Moi, they could cut ANYBODY, so don't feel so bad.

I 'm thrilled to have Brother John as #1 in Classic Rock and Seet Angelica #2 in Alt Pop Rock. So I won't bitch about about losing the following songs that were cut:
1) Tower Of love
2) Urban Symphony from Classical/easy listening)
(It's still in RnB soul)
3) Takin Back my Life
4) Goin' Higher
5) This Is Not Goodbye
6) Texas Rendevouz
7) Trippin' Through Time
8) Johnny Appleseed
9) She's An Angel
I still have several in the top 10-20 of various genres. I regretted entering so many songs in the contest because in some cases they were competing against them selves and I won't make that mistake again but I really didn't know which songs to enter. In the end it was to my advantage because if I had to lose 9 in order to save 6, it was worth it. I'm very pleased with the results regardless of where the cut songs actually placed in the voting. The judges have their reasons for cutting and I respect that. I accept the results without question and wish everybody good luck.
Next time there is another contest (if there is one) I'll only be entering one song per category. I got carried away in the excitement of it all and I feel foolish for doing so and for spending way too much money on losing songs but it worked out well anyway. We learn from our mistakes but we can't learn from them if we never make them.

judges are like lorena bobbit..they had to cut dicks! but they didn't cut my lonely track..probably they didn't noticed it ahah. i've also noticed that some tracks i voted and that i consider better than mine had been cut in electronic, like kill your parents and foot soldier..
the good news is that i'm still next to swine flu you, it's my favourite together with let's draw dicks.

Thanks, Scott. Johnny Appleseed is #11 in Classic Rock Genre with 2313 plays this month and was in the top 50% of the contest, so how bad could it be? I could make a spirited defense of the other songs as well with the stats to back me up but it really doesn't matter because the judges have spoken and they have the last word on this subject. We have to remember that so much of music evaluation is very subjective and based on individual taste. The irony is that sometimes songs that a songwriter thinks are not his best are considered great by other people just as often as the other way around.
The fun of it all is that you just throw your songs against the wall and you see which ones stick. Like everything else in life, competitions are mostly unpredictable and that's what makes it interesting as well a learning experience.
I simply can't express how thrilled I am that the songs that did survive are doing very well and some really surprised me. I am so grateful to the voters, both civilian and admin who appreciate the hard work I've put into every song that I've written since I've been at IAC. Without that support (including good stats and station adds) I could not have done it. I have a new found sense of confidence that makes me want to keep getting better and the feeling that if I just work hard enough, I will get better.
My positve experiences here have sustained me through a very difficult time in my life and for the first time I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Truth be told Jeff, the prizes are not my incentive. I've been entering contests for many years and just love the thrill of the process and the fact that unlike A&R reps, contest judges and voters actually listen to the songs.
The other thing is, I totally lost track of how many songs I entered. The process was so easy, it became addictive. I've been extemely busy lately and I really lost track of what I was entering. I'm quite embarassed over it and will never do that again. I'm not the best multi tasker in the world but I have been working on several different projects of my own as well as several projects by other people and I'm really spread too thin at the moment. I got very distracted mixing in the middle of the night, and I should have been keeping score better, but the irony is that if I had stopped after entering the ones that were cut I wouldn't be placing first, second, eighth, etc. in mulitple categories with the songs that survived. So while I regret my mistake, I'm proud that the remaining songs were good enough to be where they are. I don't use iPods ;-)

You are a prime candidate for SCA (Song Contest Anonymous) :) We all have our addictions and weaknesses Richard, so I am not judging you.
Good Luck, I hope an entry pans out...however I think that will only feed the addiction further. :)

Well, perhaps the term "addiction" is a little strong and I shouldn't have used that term. Let's just say that contests have been very good to me in the past and I tend to gravitate to things that are good to me. If I was addicted to anything I'd have to say It's to writing and producing music that keeps getting better, not to entering contests.
Ideally our songs should comptete solely on their own merit rather than how many troops we can rally to our cause. I'm definitely not thrilled with that aspect of competition, but it is what it is and I accept it. A contest is like a sport. You have to work within the parameters in order to stay in the game. Some of it is fun. Some of it isn't but once you sign up, you go with the program until the game is over. I just try to do my best and hope that people like it. In that sense, the contest has already provided me with vastly increased unique plays and station adds as well as discovering new artists and forming new relationships.
So for me, it's not about the prizes or the bragging rights if I win. It's about the gratification of knowing that my hard work is being appreciated by more and more people everyday and I don't even need to win for that to happen because it's already happening. Before IAC, I kept my songs in a drawer and only played them for family and friends. I entered contests and sent a few demos to bullshit companies. Family and friends always like your work and I needed to break out of that bubble and get my stuff to "the people".
Joining IAC lit a fire under me and it's a flame that refuses to die, because I know that me and my songs are interacting with kindred spirits in a meaningful way and that's more important than any prize or any glory. Communicating and sharing with people spiritually through music and friendship is glorious enough, and the best prize of all. Getting e-mails from people I don't even know (and some I
do know) telling me how much a certain song moved them in a major way is priceless. That's why I'm here and that's what motivates me...corny by true. I don't want to be better than anybody else. I want to be better than me. I want everyone to reach their full potential. It's not about competing. It's about doing the work and doing it well.

Thats cool, I don't mean to make light of addiction..I was just playing with your own words.
As far as getting songs out of the bedroom or "drawers" to outside ears, I think alot of artists have similar stories. I know I fall into that category...
Peace.
