Searching for those hidden gems at IAC
I'm always looking for those hidden gems here at iac, the ones that are suspended below the surface. Ya know, it's harder than it needs to be. You can browse by genre, but there's nothing more ridiculous than segmenting music by genre. Just like most of what I hear here, Bat Lenny doesn't fit in any genre.
I wish there was a keyword feature, where artists could enter keywords for each song, and they could be searched that way. Imagine the interesting results you might come up with.
Anyone else have any thoughts on that?

Actually we have something like that. If you type any word into the search engine, it will bring up any song with that word in the title. However the trick is you have to scroll down because the songs are at the bottom of the page.

It might be nice to extend that feature beyond the words in the title, to allow artists to enter a couple of words that sum up the mood or vibe or meaning or ethos or style of their song, so the listeners could search for words like hypnotic, mellow, up-beat, meditative, positive, brash... whatever! Hey it's just another field in the database :)

Sounds good to me. And like Satch says, what's another field or two. We'll see what can be done.

Come on this could get really silly, next we'll be able to check out thesaurus at IAC, type in "HOT" and get songs about the weather, cooking, arson and sex!

Exactly! Word searches return words in the title but that's so limited. It's hard to build a theme station around song titles. This would also give artists the ability to use "sounds like _____" keywords without being obvious about it. So you could search for well known artist names rather than creating genres like "Floyd Rock" or whatever.
I know when I first came here and looked for music I thought I'd like I immediately tried searching for names of well known artists, not looking for those artists, but indie artists in the same vein. It didn't work too well. I for one find it much easier to relate to artists than genres. What are The Talking Heads? New Wave? Ha! But if you had to put them in a genre, that's probably where they'd end up. If you look for songs in the New Wave genre you'll come up with a lot of junk. But if you look for songs in the vein of Talking Heads, you'll come up with a lot of songs by artists that consider Talking Heads to be a big influence on that particular song.
I think it would be cool.

yes, it would be a good feature-----------would also encourage stationmasters to put some words with each song / maybe?

I agree it would be a great feature. :-)
Silverwood,
I know what you mean about adding reviews on stations. I always take the time to create a spiel for each song added to one of my stations. When it is my Top 20 station, I either create the spiel myself or with one (or all) of my A & R team will do it and I'll add it.

Exactly!
I don't write heaps about the songs I choose for my stations, but I do try to connect the song with the theme. I don't choose songs I don't like -----so that's a given!
but it doesn't take long to put in a few words, and blank space is kinda dull-------?
