Bitter Dregs: A new station designed to elevate the lowest of the low
I'm trying an experiment. A station featuring the last song from each genre. At first I wanted to call it Perpetual Flux, because if it works the way I want it to, it will constantly change. If it gets played, the songs should float up off the bottom of the barrels, allowing the next ones to drop below them. Then those will replace them. But then I thought Bitter Dregs had a better ring to it and gave me an excuse to put a picture of Spock on it. No, I'm not a Trekkie, but I grew up with that show and I always loved that song (also known as Serenade of the Laughing Spaceman).
Shut up! I am not!
Anyway, the weird thing I discovered when making it is that even the least played songs on IAC are better than most commercial music. Some of them are downright great! So I decided to come up with something to say about every song, whether I like it or not, and point out some redeeming quality. It was easier than I expected.

I can identify with you when you say you find some good in every song, I am a real polyanna too. It's an original idea for a Station and should throw up a pretty mixed bag. Don't forget however that some of the songs near the bottom were once MUCH higher. Many artists remove their songs as they start to decend, some bands disappear and forget they have songs at IAC after that first flush of excitement. Just check the dates when these songs were first submitted. It's rarely a case of a song being low because it's bad because some songs are SO awful they get played out of curiosity. My theory is that songs get missed or hidden on days when there is a high imput or because they have uninspiring titles or sub genres or because they're from a band that listeners may have a paradigm about and this is a difficult one to overcome (unless you change your name haha!). Good luck with it, sounds like it could be very labour intensive my friend :)

I'm sure there are many possible reasons for a song to be at the bottom, and as I found out, because they're bad isn't necessarily one of them. I would bet that not a single artist is even aware their song's position. I could probably say anything I want and not hurt anyone's feelings because they'd never see it. They've probably been sitting there for a long time, sad and neglected. I can't help but be curious about them.
And yes, if people actually listen to this thing I could be very busy!
