Beginning of the End?
With the change of government in Australia and the appointment of ex Midnight Oils frontman Peter Garrett as Minister for the Environment there has begun what will hopefully be a new era.
One of his first acts was to announce that an Australian Government ship and spotter planes will shadow the Japanese whaling fleet in the Southern Ocean this year to gather evidence to present before the International community. Faced with this, the Japanese have abandoned their plans to slaughter 50 hump backed whales for "scientific" purposes.
However they still plan to slaughter nearly 1000 smaller Minke and Fin whales as they have done for many years now - but at least Greenpeace's brave little fleet won't be the only ones trying to disrupt them this year.

Just listened to a radio article about this! The Japanese representative could not give a straight answer to why they are hunting whales!!!! and could not understand why we are so concerned!!!
Leave the whales alone, there are not enough of them left for this shit!!!
Again, well done to the Aussies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Afraid Australia has a long way yet to go on coal. It's the world's biggest exporter of coal - mainly to the Chinese who are building new power stations at the rate of two per week!
