The Best Rock Guitar?
What is the most famous rock guitar? I put this question to the test by Googling "10 Greatest Guitarists" and averaging the results of 10 lists selected at random.
(This is NOT my list so please let's not enter into endless debate if your fave isn't on there)
The results were:
1. Jimi Hendrix
2. Stevie Ray Vaughan
3. Eric Clapton
4. Jimmy Page
5. Eddie Van Halen
6. Duane Allman
7. Steve Vai
8. Slash
9. Mark Knopfler
10. BB King

Three used a Fender Stratocaster during their heyday (Hendrix, SRV, Knopfler) while three others (Page, Allman, Slash) were Gibson Les Paul men. Eric Clapton used mainly a Les Paul until after the days of Cream and has used a Strat ever since then.
So there you go....what you knew already! You NEED both a Strat AND an LP if you wanna be a guitar hero!

Eddie played a kramer and Jimmy Page played a tele in the studio alot. Slash should not even be listed. He's a muppet isn't he, the one with the brillo on his head and the abe lincoln hat. Jimi Hendrix will always be a god.

IMO, Alvin Lee should have been on the list instea of Slash...but...it is what it is! At least Jimi was head of the class!!

Can't really disagree with any of the above, Slash shouldn't be compared with the other 9, as far as talent goes!
In australia we have Tommy Emmanuel, who is self taught, plays by ear, and can play any style, but he doesn't compose as successfully as say, Jimmi or Eric or Chet Atkins, though he can copy their material and it would be hard to tell the difference!

Yeah, Eddie had a penchant for building his guitars out of bits and pieces (he called the one on the Van Halen 1 cover "Frankenstein"). Since then he's used Charvels, Kramers, Ernie Ball/Music Man and Peaveys.
Here's a pic of Jimmy Page's Tele (Most famously heard on the "Stairway to Heaven" solo)

Alvin Lee at Woodstock was AWESOME but his problem was that Ten Years After could never capture their "live" sound in the studio.

Tommy was one of the few select players that Chet admitted to his "Certified Guitar Pickers" club. Mark Knopfler was another.
And I must admit that I just put Slash in the Good Players league but not nearly as original as the other nine.
