Anyone want to try to master one of my songs?
I put one of my tunes up on OurStage (what is the deal with that place?), and I'd say the song holds its own from a writing and performance stand point. But even in the Indie category, all the other songs sounded super slick and hi-fi. Mine came on and sounded, well, lo-fi.

I know I could pay IAC to do some mastering, but I guess I was just wondering if any of you wanted to practice the art or try out some new gear, etc. I don't have any mastering software, and I doubt I'd know what to do with it if I did.

Let me know. :)

Chris

Hmm, Just a tip is all I can offer...
One thing that i've started doing(since I got a cheap hissy mixer) is to take each individual track into adobe audition and try editing as much of the background noise between the chops and licks out, then I take them back into the multi track mode to set the levels for the mix,
This process is pretty long time wise, but worth the effort, and will make the final mix much easier to "master",

Brad Sarno (Auset's husband) mastered my album and did an excellent job.

Hey Chris,

Which song were you thinking of ? I'd be happy to take a listen, and comment. It may need remixing, for example, before mastering. Just email me if I don't reply here.

cheers, niteshift

I agree with the others...needs re-mixing before mastering.

Hey, Chris, judging from the first 1/2 dozen on your page, it's not mastering help you need, it's mixing.

Consider taking those tracks to someone who's a good mixer.

The recording sounds ok, to me, it's the levels and effects maybe you're too close to. It's not easy to record everything yourself and then dispassionately adjust it all.

Yeah yeah Dan, I've listened to the tracks, and from a quick listen, it appears to be the mix more than anything. But which song in particular, is in need of attention ?

cheers, niteshift
