Hey Phlegmmy Killmeister,
Sorry I didn't get a chance to listen earlier; I had my kid with me at work today, and didn't do much listening at all. And, when I did, it was listening to the masters of the new HoP record that just came back from the masterman (aka Brad Sarno, or Mr. Auset).
So... this song.
I know that it's not supposed to be a pro recording, but it's still pretty hard to hear the song through it all. And, as it's a pretty noisy song as it is, a better-miced recording would help a lot in to determine a final assessment.
That said, from what I could hear:
I like it.
It's aggressive (of course).
It's abrasive (of course).
And it has a certain anthemic quality that I think will translate nicely to a better recording. You need to hook up with Steve Albini... he'll clean you up while keeping you sounding nasty.
But, I guess we all need to hook up with Albini at least once or twice, eh?
I dig it.

Man, oh man.....Todd, if only.
IF ONLY, I could gain the connections or CLOUT to hook up with a GREAT like Steve Albini !!!! I could REALLY do some AMAZING shit in the studio, with a producer/sound engineer/musician like THAT master.
you're right of course, on the extremely lo-fi nature of this particular recording; but the GOOD news is that I've already got SCHOOL of Product Recall turned on to it, for our SIDE project, once I get my booty over to the UK.
COLIN you are awesome to always be so supportive.... again I can't wait to jam with you, once we're in England! The CODE fuckin' ROCKS !!!!

Hey Phlegm,
Albini is a lot easier to access than you might think. He's always been a mainstay on the Chicago scene and has always made himself available to indie bands -- the little guys that are trying to do it on their own. Hell, that's the type of thing that he champions time and time again.
In fact, he has a tiered rate system -- he charges the major labels the BIG bucks so that he can afford to record the little guys a rate that they can afford.
Whether or not you agree with his P.O.V. about music, or find him abrasive, there is one thing that you have to give him for that setup: He's a class act.
The only thing really keeping you from recording with Albini is geography. But, if you were in Chicago, or planned a trip here, if you reached him enough in advance, you could probably swing it.
Nice to know, eh?
