I run Mac. Nothing I have was cheap. I plugged my FireWire in upside down. Blew a 64 pin processor chip that runs the FireWire port. $3 part. The replacement is outside of my capabilities. A 16 pin, a 32 pin, I may attempt to replace, but this thing is literally a microprocessor. It appears I may be able to send it to the factory and they will refurb it for around $100. I need to contact tech support.

Found a used motu 8pre for under $400!!
You can daisy chain these things, which means using the optical interface, I will have 16 channels of 96khz live recording capabilities straight to my MacBook. And because the only thing affected by my dumbassery was the fire wire port, I can still use my old motu in conjunction with the new one.
The mic preamps in these motu externals have headroom like Neve.
I have to drive it like I stole it to get square waves. They're bullet proof. I am so stoked.
I tried recording with this hunk of shit focus rite 2 channel external and I might as well break out the goddamn cassette recorder.
.. Word of advice, fuck focus rite, you cannot get anything reference grade out of them. It works for getting ideas down and sorted out, but that's it.

good to hear this Fred, well, I know nothing about anything you are talking about, I am so not a techie of this stuff and ignorant of all this stuff, what I do is way simple and thats it, my bro is full on in the whole recording and all that, and did all the recording engineering for the Redneck sound. loving to hear what you got cooking with Kris in the sound canvas and magic of music you guys do..rock on

what's funny is the geeky tech guys speak a language I don't understand. Haha.
I am a Neanderthal in their world.
I do geek out, but not like your proverbials.
I am really looking forward to sharing what we are working on. She, Kris blows my mind. And her vocals are so dynamic, that these cheep soundcards just don't cut it. We did manage to get some really good stuff in the can despite the soundcard debacle yesterday, but unfortunately it is going to require retakes on a bunch of it.
