Yeah, Michael was such a unique and talented artist. The controversies about his lifestyle gave many people pause but I don't think anyone could ever dispute the talent and sheer dedication to the art of making music that he had. His body of music spans several decades and he was probably one of the most talented child performers that ever lived. The voice, the soul, the charisma, the dancing, the production work, the songwriting, the musicianship and the most famous videos ever. Michael was a phenom unlike any we have ever seen and quite possibly will ever see again. I love Michael Jackson music. Can't think of a single song he ever did that I didn't like. He was tortured soul who never had a childhood. I think he spent his entire adulthood trying to recapture what he never had. Michael had more talent than I could ever dream of having. I love him. He is so missed!

Well.
This occasions me to tell my own personal Michael Jackson story.
I believe the year was 1977.
Because of my mother's involvement in the publishing of a book about him,
I found myself a guest, at a party for Elton John,
at the original Studio 54.
(they have some inert watered down version now, they call that,
but believe me, it's not, this was the real thing)
and I bumped into a few people there actually,
Bernie Taupin, (Elton's lyricist) Elton himself,
Eric Idle of Monty Python,
(whom as it turns out, is so tall, he can reset Big Ben merely walking up to it)
and, the oddest of sights,
there, on the dancefloor, between 'career surges'...
the last days of The Jackson Five behind him,
and he had not yet that I know of pulled together
his solo career which did take off soon afterwards,
"Off The Wall" I believe was his first solo success
since many years previous with "Got To Be There" and then "Ben"...
well, as I said, it was a lull,
and in show biz, a lull may as well be you're dead for all anyone cares.
It was a couch,
on the dancefloor at Studio 54,
incredible they even HAD a couch,
there, on the dancefloor slightly off to the side
so you don't have people's wiggling asses in your face
and there, sitting all by himself, looking more than a bit lonely actually,
was the one and only Michael Jackson.
Yes, this was a while ago, he was still entirely, uh, well you
know how he changed 'tint'? Like, a lot? Yeah, this was before then.
And I wanted to say "I've loved your Jackson Five records,
they made a very big impact on me growing up, thank you for that..."
All I managed to say to him, actually was,
"by any chance do you have a joint you can spare?"
He was nice enough about it.
The music was so thunderingly loud,
that my 'whispering' that question,
was actually saying it right into his ear,
you just couldn't hear otherwise,
then he leaned into my ear,
"No man, sorry, I don't do that."
is what he said.
Look at that, now I don't do that either.
Thanks for the good example, and the great music, Michael.
God Bless, Much Love Always, ~Lesley Jane
