Seeing how I am currently without live band and no stage reeking of stale beer, I find myself wanting of a crowd to perform to. Lucky for me the internets are full of blogs and forums, perfect for putting on a virtually live performance. I am not alone in this. Many of you (here on the pipeline) use bolgs to connect to an audience. Obviously, blogs do not compare to a real live gig. As a matter of fact they are nothing alike except for one thing,.. by doing neither, you connect to bupkiss.
I have posted a few topics here at IAC. I rubbed a bunch of people wrong. BUT, I call em like I see em. My online behavior has been likened to that of a fifth grader. BFD,.. those of you who have eganged with me in my threads got a dose of the real me, a cynical, foul mouthed, opinionated degenerate. What some of you failed to see is the playfull comedic element which obviously went right over your head. I understand how hard it is to tell whether or not I am serious or sarcastic, or just stupid,.. well, rest assured, it is all three.
I have a few ideas about about this site, this pipeline and the posters who frequent this place.
There are a lot of fans/listeners here lurking, but wouldn't it be nice if some of them joined the discussions on the pipeline?
The pipeline is very similar (metaphorically) to a sausage party.
..you know, when you go to party and there are only drunk and horny guys there?
Kinda like some of the desperate for a thread boink or station click over eager artists boring the crowd away.
WHo wants to post on a shameless listen to my song, circle jerk thread getting boinked up to the top and not at all interesting or thought provoking?
I will tell you who wants to post on a thread like that.
More of the same type. Basically people who only think of themselves.( courtesy reach arounders.)
quid pro quo?
Is that how you roll?
Granted, there are some great topics here. The problem is they get drowned in shameless boinking of boring rehashed shit.
You want some fans?
You want some legitimate listens?
You want to see some more people post on the pipeline to help keep it INTERESTING?
Use your songwriting brains and live performance energy and entertain these poor lurkers.

YOu are boring them to death!

I am just as guilty as anyone. It seems easier to go the lazy route and put up a blog, "new song!! please listen!" - I want folks to check out my tunes, I want fellow artists to accept me, but not at the cost of disgusting passerbys with sticky palms.

A cool quote of the day (here at IAC the other day) was Johnny Rotton(dead kennedys) It went something like,.. "many of of you may be better than us, but you are too fucking lazy".

We have to work for it. You know as well as I do that you can love gigging and playing out, but, goddamn, it's a lot of work. It is not for the timid, nor for the slackers. It is easy to sit at a pc and upload tune after tune, and hold out a tin cup for handouts. It is something completely different to expose yourself to complete strangers and reveal something personal about yourself and share your art.

Sometimes a song alone warrants mass appeal, but most of the time getting to know an artist, what they are about, their motivation, the ideals that swim about in their heads brings more to the table to admire and attracts an audience that would otherwise skip right on by.

I'm not necessarily talking about putting on makeup like Kiss and shooting fire out of your ass to get attention, I am talking about getting people on the dance floor (so to speak) by whatever means possible.

If you are into creating music because it's what you do, and you do it for yourself, fine, you don't need a crowd. But I don't understand why, if that's the case, you would choose to masterbate in front of a bunch of people. I actually think if Pipeline posters choose to claim they are in it for themselves, I call bullshit. If that was the case, you wouldn't post at all.

so again, I challenge you quid pro quoers to quit fornicating each other and entertain the crowd you have so eagerly invited to your web page.
