So true. He was much better when he was just playing drums and singing backup for Gabriel (but then, I'm a boring old traditionalist).

Damn!!!! That is IMPRESSIVE!
I am a huge Genesis and Phil Collins fan and, being foremost a keyboard player myself and inspired by Tony Banks, I have to say the guy in this clip does a superb job.
Phil is also one of my biggest inspirations as a drummer too, along with Chester Thompson and Omar Hakim.

Yes, Phil went from one of my top 10 all time favorite musicians to one of my bottom 10. But it wasn't instantaneous for me. The dvd of Genesis In Concert in Japan that's included in the recent remaster of Trick of the Tail is great evidence that he could actually pull it off sufficiently at first. He was no Gabriel but he kept the band alive for a few years. Losing Steve Hackett was what really put an end to them and they became the Phil Collins Band.
She has to have an invisible touch - hey!

I'm really thrilled to see some young players who are developing skills, really practicing but still manage to stay interested in Rock music!

You Tube inspires me so much, I can go get a guitar lesson from Paul Gilbert or Steve Morse, find video clips of performances....freak out on Stanley Jordan playing two guitars better than I can play one...
what a world of wonder....
