The Beatles Ponder 'Rock Band' or 'Guitar Hero' Appearance

Activision and MTV Games are reportedly in negotiations with Apple Corps. about licensing portions of The Beatles catalog for Guitar Hero or Rock Band. According to a Rollingstone.com story, such a deal would be worth millions and require the approval of EMI and the band's reps. The American Idol/Across the Universe/Love deals set in motion by Apple Corps.' chief exec, Jeff Jones, suggest such a thing might happen sooner rather than later.
"To my view, it's only a matter of time before we see Beatles songs that are the original recordings in motion pictures, in television work, and yes, maybe even one day in a commercial," Sony/ATV chief executive Martin Bandier—who holds more than 200 Beatles copyrights—told Rollingstone. A source close to The Beatles game talks added that a deal "could be reached in a matter of weeks."

I heard that on NPR.
I don't get the attraction. This Guitar Hero thing is like many similar games, where the music plays, and you have to hit certain buttons at certain times to match what's happening on screen. Only difference is, this controller is shaped like a guitar, and the music is licensed rock from well-known groups.
As a guitar player, this just sort of irks me. I'd rather have a controller with strings that senses how close I am to duplicating the REAL guitar moves involved in matching those solos than some artificial button thing. What's the point? I do understand that this gives non-players the chance to feel like they're doing the playing, but it's just sooooo artificial and non-correspondent to the real thing.
Can't knock the music copyrighters for cashing in on this, though. It's big money and wildly popular. Just can't see why. Too close to the real thing, I guess. And yet, I know some actual players who also enjoy this. WTF.

I can't wait 'til version 62.9 of GUITAR HERO & ROCK BAND come out, and these folks with so much time on their hands to play video games, are ACTUALLY learning to play a REAL Guitar! Er... I mean the controller actually BECOMES like the fret board of an actual guitar.
Won't that be a hoot? Maybe some new bands will start up from folks that were previously content to play along in karioki fashion with cover tunes...and then accidentally learn to play guitar. Certainly, they'd figure out after a bit, that they could just strap on a REAL One! Such a move by those two big Game companies could bring A new video game geek wave of indie artists! It could be called GUITAR GOD, instead of guitar hero...and.... oh, sorry. It'll probably never happen.
Personally, I avoid the game, even though my kids love it, figurin' that any time I spend on a mock, cheezy simplified BASS guitar, would be better spent on my actual REAL one... You know so that I'm actually playin'/practicin' with a PURPOSE!
Although I do like to use the MIC on the ROCK BAND version of the game from time to time for a chance to do Karioki King stuff with my chitlins...
Once you've tasted of writing/recording/performing your OWN original music, it's hard to imagine bein' satisfied with a game like these ones though! However, It's good to stretch out the vocal chords from time to time on some tasty Karioki Krap or a COVER tune done in your OWN style, in my opinion.

Those games are for idiots. I believe they were created by smart people to help flush out the dolts.

Yup fly. Like Phlegm said, s'better to take your liesure time learnin' to play a REAL guitar! That's why it'd be funny for a bunch of dolts to be accidentally learning to play a REAL guitar, if they made one with all the frets, etc. Uh... get it? uh... Oh that phlegm, his humor is not always loved by the fly. But you love ME, right fly?
