Allow me to boast a bit, then please congratulate...

I went to the big city today (Regina, the capitol of Saskatchewan).

I welded two pipes together and cut them into four strips, then they bent the strips at the welds and

I PASSED! No defects.

I'm now qualified to weld pressure pipe and pressure vessels in the oilfield and on construction sites.

This premium work, worth lotsa money.

Whooee!! I've been practicing for weeks and it paid off today.

Thanks for letting me share my happiness...

Terry (the even kozier king)

Congrats DUDE!!

We have quality welders at Dow that have to be certified every couple of years. Working on enclosed vessels, tight spaces, upside-down, plus all kinds of different types of metals from carbon steel, to pure nickel.
One of my jobs is to test and match the metals before they go out for weld and everything afterwards gets x-rayed. It has to be right the first time!

So, I know you did something good!
The cash isn't too bad either!

Thanks everyone. I was fairly excited, even had a little trouble getting to sleep.

Hey Duane, so glad I decided to post this -- I didn't know you worked with welders. I've got to keep practicing to pass x-rays, though. We're hoping to pick up pipe headers and fire tubes for the oilfield (all x-ray'd). Lotsa of money there and we've already been approached last year. In the oil industry nothing seems to be centralized so there is always a lot of work at the local level. We have several millionaires in our little town of about 1500 people. Saskatchewan is the place to be in Canada right now. All the untapped resources are now being exploited ASAP. (We've got to get more oil to China and India as quickly as possible so they can continue to kick our ass in every other sector!) Also, the price of grain doubled last year so even the farmers (who don't have oil) should prosper too.

Congrats! Now you can afford that Cubase workstation!

Next step - underwater welding? I understand there's a lot of money in that! I can't even "fathom" it.

Terry,
Right now I run the Ship/Rec dept. but I'm the only person in the warehouse that can run the metal analyzer. I used to work (still help out) in the consumables dept. where all of the pipe and fittings are kept. I've done a little welding myself, but am no longer qualified...(at least for dow standards). You have to have special training for the x-rays and the big joke around here is going home and glowing in the dark!

Anyways, congrats and maybe soon you can join the millionaires! Or better yet, you can get some cool music gear!

Wear your leathers and helmet dude!
D.

Thanks again everyone. I'm happy today, the stress is off.

Way to go on PowerSeller Larree, my wife has done a lot of EBay and I know it takes a lot of work to get that status!!!!!!!!

As far as the eyes go, believe it or nor my sight was really ruined by sitting at a computer everyday as a publisher. When I went back to welding my eyes IMPROVED to the point where I'm wearing my goofy aviation-style glasses from the seventies or eighties. Getting away from the computer improved my eyes by at least twenty years. TAKE NOTE!!!!!

And as far as more money goes, I'm happy to let my boss have it. He's a great guy who lets me do whatever I want -- how do you put a price on that?

thanks again.

Thats really good. Im super pleased for you. I found it really interesting to hear about what you do for a living. I bet there are some people on IAC some really interesting jobs that we never hear about because it has no relation to the music. Unfortunately Im not one of those people as I sell beds for an online bed company, not the most stimulating of jobs.... What does everyone else do? ( If you dont mind me asking )
