This is cool. I generally like your taste, so I'm sure that I'll be interested in picking up more than one or two of the things you list here.
Today's post reminds me that I do need to pick up some stuff from The Sweet (I don't have any).
Keep posting these.

I've just looked...Sweet Fanny Adams and 'The Best Of Sweet' would be your best bet Todd...Best Of Sweet has all their excellent glam singles on and Sweet Fanny Adams is far and away their best album imho -you've got nearly all their cool songs with those 2 :)

I listened to side 2 of On the Beach as a soundtrack to my college life, played it pretty much every night the last 2 years of school. On the Beach, Motion Pictures, and Ambulance Blues. It mellowed me out. Played all those songs on acoustic a million times too, Ambulance Blues was one that was often part of my set, and that I got a lot of requests for when I did solo shows back in the day. Many think On the Beach is Neil's best record. Strangely it wasn't available in any format for about 15 years. I wore out several copies of the album.
As for Revolution Blues, Neil actuallly knew Charles Manson, they were from the same neck of the woods for a time when Manson hung out with Dennis Wilson and friends.

Total Anti Pop, incredibly musical and so full of great ideas!
and he can write and play like MAD!!
If I had to pick my current musical hero this would be the guy.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fanny Adams (April 1859 – 24 August 1867) was a young English girl murdered by solicitor's clerk Frederick Baker in Alton, Hampshire. The expression "sweet Fanny Adams" refers to her and has come, through British naval slang, to mean "nothing at all".
I liked The Sweet, I liked T.Rex and the whole Glam Rock scene, Slade, Mott The Hoople etc., well...it was my time... :-) Didn't know that the album title refers to a murder...wow.

That Gil album is a BEAST, Steve! One of my favorites. And, I need to hear that Caetano record; I haven't heard that one yet.
Also, Hunky Dory: my favorite Bowie record.
Nice selection, today!

Never,
I saw Mike Kenneally with his band "Beer for Dolphins" at a "very small" dinner club in Hollywood back in the nineties. He is a monster guitarist for sure, very talented and a funny guy.

Come Out Fighting Ghengis Smith-ROY HARPER
Folkjokapus ROY HARPER
Ghengis Smith is brilliant all the way thru 'specially with the bonus tracks and Folkjokupus has at least 3 utterly stellar songs She's The One,Sgt Sunshine and the mega McGoohans Blues..
Maybe the greatest lyricist ever and in the late 60s his music was similarly free, melodic and magical..

Who plays with Hunter on the MTH stuff Steve? is it Bolder and Ronson? or?

Steve Ison
|

I know its not Mick Ronson Chris...He only started playing with Hunter on his 1st solo album..
Mick Ralphs is the guitarist on 'Mott' and he left and was replaced by Ariel Bender on 'The Hoople'-I know that much-but dunnop if Bolder was involved or not..

The Hangmans Beautiful Daughter-The Incredible String Band
Wee Tam-The Incredible String Band
Beautiful music..So free spirited, playful and lyrically spiritual without being pious in the least..There's no artists who can create a space like this nowadays..We're too ego-base and far away from nature
Sounds Of Silence-Simon And Garfunkel
Love this album..Might just be my favourite by them-even over Bookends...Paul Simons such a great writer-dramatic storyteller..I love them when they're being a little bit more rocky over the wistful ballad stuff they're known for-truth be told...So many little known gems here like this brilliant track..

I can't see the videos, but I do love me some Gilberto Gil. Nice choice, there, Steve!!!
Also, I need to hear some Incredible String Band. I have a feeling that's a gaping hole in my collection that needs to be filled. Thanks for the reminder.

Its wonderful music Todd...I think you'd have to be in a certain space to dig it-but with the vast range of your taste i'm sure you'd get something from it..And its music that keeps on giving-more with each listen..
Let me know what you think if you ever get any of their albums :)

Murmer-R.E.M
Definitely my favourite REM album-Their 1st and best imo...They made alot of good stuff after, but never quite re-captured the joy and exhuberance of the music here..Its weird it sounds really 80s-but in a good atmospheric way-Like the way The early Cure did or something..
