Hiya, don't worry it is normal for this to happen, I've copied the info from the 'chart rankings' section of the artists area - that explains it for you. Verity
"Charts are based upon activity in an extended date range, consisting of the previous calendar month's plays and the current calendar month's plays, with forward weighting."

The thing is, the charts are based on a range of time. Often what happens is there's one stretch where a song was promoted heavily and got a lot of plays. When that time period is far enough in the past, it falls out of the charting range, then your song drops, unless it has another strong week or something.

Yeah. You guys need to be consistent.
(I wish we had a stable of emoticons here. Then you could sort of tell which way my mouth is pointing on this one. Yeah! That's another thing the forum had that Pipeline doesn't)

so basically my song which originally had over 8000 plays and now has only 3000 or so and has dropped 4 spots in the genra is the way it is by some system you have of measuring time elapsed between plays (which i dont understand), and thats it end of argument.
I'm speechless
how do you pick chart toppers?

See. this proves what I've been saying. Savage, you've been moping around here for a couple weeks but if you had just written to support, they would've taken the time to explain your misunderstanding.
Nobody took any plays away from you. Your plays per month are there permanently. What changes and may get smaller is the amount of plays that you have in the range that counts for charts. Let me give you a simple example. Say you decided to promote yourself using google or something, and ran up 5000 plays on say, the 20th of May. Now, at a certain point, plays back in May no longer count towards the current genre chart. So if you're looking at how many plays you have in the current charting range, those 5000 plays are not included in that amount, because the date when your big promo thing ran is no longer within the range being counted in the charts. So you see, you didn't lose the plays, what happened was, your recent plays were a smaller amount than your plays back when the 5000 were still within the charting window.

i've been given several different answers none of it makes sence to me
your responces are always defensive (almost like your a teenager) never really understanding that we have legitamate questions
obviously this also bothers other people
ive seen the comments
also you have what - over 10 000 artist here
so how come i see the same pics everytime i log on
i have doubts about how you rate people here and i have every right to feel that way
if you can't respect that at least keep quiet
if you want a site for your friends feel free to do so but don't invite everyone else along and create charts ,and ask for votes that really don't count for anything
when you do that you have a responcibility to be fair
so don't call me obnoxious

Perhaps we should just be pleased that we're getting plays on a site that gives out stats, many don't. I can't see (reading through this thread) how you've had different answers from anyone, seems like people are saying the same thing over again. You wouldn't count George Bush's votes from the last term in the next would you? Just make a note of your plays if you need to know - you are the only one who has this personal info. Re the pics - you said it 10,000 artists, a non stop progression haha! I believe it's a regional thing, you get different pics in different areas (could be wrong). Anyway I didn't notice 'obnoxious' or defensive but I do think you may be a little over sensitive, OK we take our grievences to 'the PTB' and mostly we come away happy so if you're still with us just sit back and get things into perspective - I don't usually get involved with these things but I don't like to see annimosity on the front page, this is a social gathering of like minded musical spirits not a complaints desk. If you've got some music, we'll listen to that, if you've got some positive help and advice we're all ears and if you want to make us smile we're waiting - Jilly

Savage, your legitimate question was answered, several times. This same question was asked an estimated 10 times by different artists in the history of IAC. We've always taken the time to explain and nobody else ever expressed any complaints about the subject after it was explained to them.
Yes it is obnoxious to post basically the identical thing, 3 posts worth, on 2 different threads.
What I find interesting too is that one of your songs spent a number of weeks on the Big 50. That's only true for a small percentage of artists on the site yet you feel like you're being persecuted.
Of course you can have =your doubts= but when you make the kind of accusations you're making (like IAC puts all its friends up for features), you deserve to be responded to in kind. You are demanding fairness while apparently not even reading answers to your questions that we took our time to give. If you're going to demand fairness, YOU have a responsibility to be fair as well, and you're not fair at all, you're a cheapshot artist bitching about wanting higher chart position without even trying to comprehend what's been explained to you several times.
No I'm not going to keep quiet when someone foolishly shooting from the hip makes bogus attacks on the site. If you want that kind of wimpiness, go elsewhere, you ain't gonna get service with a smile here when you show up with a totally shitty attitude.

I would say if you cracked the Big fifty Savage you have nothing to complain about, I haven't got a sniff of that mythical place :)
Toby has explained it well...Just as "Real World" Charts cover a specific time frame, so it is with IAC. As I pointed out in the other thread, if Charts were made up of "Cumulative" plays or sales and not limited to a defined time frame The Beatles and Elvis would Top Billboard....Fergie or whatever Flavor of the month would not have a chance!!
Congrats on the amount of plays you have received, and your making the Big 50. That is an accomplishment. I hope you take the time to think about what is really happening, and the logic behind it. There is no Conspiracy here.

Savage,
I can assure you that IAC is not a biased site based on who is a "FRIEND" here.
I currently have 5 of my bands that have pages here, and only one has charted consistently. I have never met anyone on this site personally (other than the bands I work with) and I have not received any "Special" treatment from IAC. I would rather have it that way. That way I know the music speaks for itself and the listeners here decide for me.
I promote my bands heavily OUTSIDE of IAC. I have to. I own a record label. With so many talented people here, I get a good idea what music is working and what is not. IAC is a sounding board for me to take to the outside world, and that's it. If I chart here, GREAT!!! That's promotion I can use elsewhere. If not, OH WELL, that means I need to promote more heavily elsewhere in order for my numbers to increase here.
If you want chart rankings to increase, promote the HELL out of your band outside of this site and reference that promotion to here (as well as the MULTITUDES of other sites on the internet that ANY Artist can be a part of). You have to work HARDER to achieve results. It is NOT productive for your band or your music to be negative here over changing chart numbers.... The system is fair, it is basically how the music industry does chart rankings (the difference here is that EVERYONE gets a fair shake, the INDUSTRY decides who gets the spots on Billboard).
If you want, you can contact me and I will go over some things with you regarding how the music industry operates. My advice to you is let your music speak for itself on this site. Promote in other ways here if you don't chart. Network, Man. You'll see results... You have a station here??? I have FOUR... That's a good way to spread your music around without charting.... and help others at the same time... POSITIVE ENERGY, Savage... Negativity SUCKS..
Hit me up if you wish.... I can put your mind at ease that you are not getting screwed here.... I'll check out your music too.... put a tune on one of my stations that I stream... Watch your numbers then... You'll get the idea..
Peace,

Toby, you're a very patient person - Even I understand what you're saying!
Seems obvious to me that the charts aren't rigged. Seeing as I only have a free account here I never expected very much. So when a message from a friend showed up on my page telling me one of my tunes was No1 on the World Music Charts I was utterly amazed. Since then that tune has consistently sat at or around No2 for some months. Each month the number of plays is reset and for a day or two things might move around a bit but then it seems to settle down again.

Kenny,
That is a FANTASTIC post. Positivity, promotion and networking are AWESOME tools and IAC provides us with great opportunities to use all of these key aspects in sharing our music with the world.
Savage,
I too initially had numerous questions I did not understand about the way the IAC system worked. Toby and the rest of the support crew here answered all my questions in an easy to understand, polite AND patient way (they must get asked the same questions over and over!!!).
