Lesson in humility no. 1236 for those who dig the CHARTS on IAC....
I know most folks say they don't even look at the charts, but surely some of you have experienced something similar to my little tale of woe.
Well, it happened finally, we PEAKED our tune, In His Head, at no. 17 in ALL Genres, only to have it jump to number One Thosand Two Hundred and Thirty Six, bizzarrely in the last 24 hours....
OUCH! I dreamed of it making the TOP 10 of ALL tunes, and getting mentioned in CASHBOX Magazine, but it was NOT to be.
Maybe one of our other tunes'll get more listens now, eh?

This is a site issues post.
When somebody drops down to near the bottom of the genres chart, it's because they received a lot of short duration plays, so your stream percentage completion hurt your chart position.

okay. so basically your saying people are only listening to a few seconds of the song now. That makes sense.
Sorry, it just seemed rather odd, when it's been no. 1 in Hard Alternative for months.
And sorry that such a silly thing matters, in the grand scheme of things.
I just kind of got use to the good news after a long day, of seeing the song move up the charts & briefly into the underground 40.
Incidentally, why are the IAC charts no longer on Cashbox Magazine, as of today? Is this just a temporary thing, Toby?

Hey pHLeGm,
Don't let chart position get you down. Some poeple love the charts others hate them. I know personally you can drive yourself crazy watching them.
What I look for is consitant plays per month. Since I joined IAC I have been getting a pretty solid average plays per month. This makes me happy because I know people have not listed ony once. I love the fact that the plays have been solid and can't thank the folks here at IAC enough for listening.
I do hope your play count gets sorted out. You got some good stuff!

Yeah it's happened to us-----!
but a little differently----
I saw our song on the front page (all genres) ----and quickly celebrated by posting a blog!
What I didn't realise was that ALL songs positions were being updated and by the time my blog was posted it had slipped into the thousands------I saw the same happen to SP once!
Anyway congrats on actually BEING on the front (all genres)
that IS awesome!!

Well i'm surprised that this post is still here as i posted a similar post two days ago and it was removed. It seems that many artists plays have dropped in a dramatic manner and we need a clear answer from the iac into how this has happened.

My song, "Tower Of Love" was # 27 on the Underground 40 chart. Now it's gone from the chart altogether. It was fun while it lasted. Easy come easy go!

Thank you two silo complex, Richard AND Silverwood Studio for your wisdom on this matter. It's true that you shouldn't obsess on the charts, I know.... I know....
Richard, you, me and MANY others were moved completely out of the Underground 40...
I guess we'll see if it was a fluke. What threw me off is it's been no. 1 in Hard Alternative for Months, and in the top 20 of all Genres a number of times too...
Never too far from 50th or so (first or second page of All Genres)...
-thanks for listenin' to my sob story y'all... Now carry on with the ROCK !!!

Same thing happen to me. I was wonder if they changed the way that they count unique plays, because this month my play count dropped drastically from the last several months. Or maybe whomever was listening, just got sick of my stuff.

Yeah, Phlegm, a bunch of us folks who usually blog here all entered and fell off the chart at the same time. That doesn't make sense to me. It all seems a bit arbitrary.
Like Heidi Klum says: "one day you're in, the next day you're out!" I thought this was the music business, not the fashion industry!

Something I never do is check the charts. Since this post, I decided to have a look. And I have you beat pHLeGm! My "It's So Hard" is at 913!!! wooohoooo! (hitting the big times) :-)
"I Cry" however, is at 4,900. :-( So guess you beat me on that one............
I guess it's true that "When you're smilin', the whole world smiles with you but when you're cryin', you cry alone." (someone said that once) Don't ask me who.

Thanks Tony/Deb, DT, Dean for contributing to the BLOG!
Toby, Thank you for NOT moving it off the Recent Topics page, I think it's staying relevant, and avoiding site issues topics too...
Richard -- too be fair, on the whole Underground 40 issue, it's update every three weeks. So basically, you & I, and a few others, were climbing up for the first 6 weeks or so, and then I guess in the NEXT 3 week period, we dropped out for OTHER Underground choices. But that way more people get a shot at their 15 minutes of fame, eh?
-trying to be very diplomatic, pHLeGm
