Good news for those who were concerned about the NOISE CONTROL issues that were seemingly soon to happen to LIVE music in the UK....
Now, they could be lying but here's what the HOME Office at 10 Downing Street said regarding the petition to KEEP LOUD LIVE music ALIVE in the UK:

" Read the Government’s response
We are pleased to tell you that there is no truth in claims that the Government is planning to introduce a requirement for entertainment venues to fit noise control devices.

Each Local Authority Licensing Authority considers every live music application on its merits, and decisions are made entirely by them. However, the Licensing Act 2003 does not allow mandatory conditions for live music to be imposed across the board. It would not be possible to impose such a condition without a change in the law and such a change is not, and never has been, on the Government’s agenda.

There is also no legal requirement under health and safety legislation for entertainment venues to have noise control devices fitted, nor is there any proposal.

The Government is acutely aware of the contribution that music makes to our culture and we remain committed to a vibrant and flourishing creative sector, of which live music plays an essential part."

I'm sure OTHERS of you who signed the petition, received the EMAIL with a link to this message also. Hopefully, things will go the direction of LOUD & LIVE being a thriving part of ART & music, in the UK and abroad ! -pHLeGm

Thanks for posting that Phlegm, I was going tobut hadn't got arround to it.

The Licensing authority thing is abit of a gamble from area to area. Some are very pro music, some are not. Westminster was one of the most petty in past years with pub landlords being procecuted for allowing the public to sing happy birthday and other such stupidity. Most thankfully are significantly better than that. There rumours of aplanned exemption for small venues, but whether that ever makes it though or not....

Andy and Chris -- It DEFINITELY doesn't sound like the battle is completely over. But at least their talkin' a good line for now.

That individual licensing thing --- somebody should research it and Blog on it!
