The New York Dolls - One of the best ever?
Johansen was a great talent before he became Buxter Poindexter.

I saw the movie "New York Doll" the other day (story of the bassist Aurthur "Killer Cane") and the build-up to their 2004 reunion. Guy's a mormon, lives in a temple, zero money, had to get his mormon bretherin to help him get his bass out of hock in order to do the reunion concert.
Great story, redemption, concert was a success, I'm feeling pretty good about the movie. Then at the very end of the movie they freeze-frame on Arthur and say "22 days after this concert, he went to the hospital complaining of fatigue... he was diagnosed with leukemia......2 hours later he died".
Man, what a buzz killer and downer. He died happy though and peaceful, attaining some kind of redemption at the end of his life.
Still sad though. I think he was only 54 or something.

nothing against mormons but -- A MORMON playing a BASS fronted by the MORMON Brethern for The New York Dolls! Will wonders never cease! I guess the mormon god is pretty cool to FRONT the instrument. I mean for A BAND that helped GLAM & Bi-Sexual- laced rock & roll with heretical & sexual/counter culture lyrics & moves, they should fittingly have had a mormon Bass player. One of the godfathers of the new music/punk movement in the 70's & The Mormon church in an unholy alliance. Life is truly stranger than fiction.
