McCain says that bringing troops home is "not too important".
Incredible but true

Hey Holo, how are ya??? Here is my point of view for better or worse :)
Just as his "in Iraq for 100 years" has been twisted, I am sure this will get a ton of traction. Its a line that out of context can be very damaging. Where have I read that before??? :)
Asking "When will the troops come home?" is like a child asking "are we there yet"?
It is not the question to be asking at the moment..the question to ask is how do we create stability?, reduce casualties?, and then....how do we bring the majority of our troops home without leaving a vacuum that will implode?. . We will always have a presence there, just as we have one in Germany and South Korea. If you don't believe that you are living in a fantasy world.
McCain is a realist, he is not spouting things that people want to hear..like "I will bring our troops home in 50 days" That is a lame political phrase. Like it or not, we are there....and we need an exit strategy. I agree his words were not chosen well...pretty damn careless, and they will be used against him. Such is the life of a politician. Obama is not free of these missteps. If you are intellectually honest, and not biased you might see the point of view each is trying to express.
Iraq is a mess, and I don't agree with how we got there, but it is a mess that will need to be dealt with...by McCain or Obama. We have an all volunteer Military, many are proud to serve in Iraq; I would like to hear more from them. I agree we are spread too thin, and many are serving multiple tours. Things must change, but the most important question is not when...it is how. I hope someone has an answer that will work...be it McCain or Obama.....one thing is for certain, one of them will be President at a crucial time in the History of The United States. I hope whoever it is has the Wisdom and courage to get us out of this mess without creating a situation that is far worse.

well, I have 4 friends in the National Guard who are on their 3rd tour..
(yes, we're re-deploying the Guard 3 and 4 times..)
I have friends in Intelligence and family members in Homeland security.
I live in a proud military town.
what I hear and what I see is that we are creating far more tension that we are relieving.
I think it's amazing that, after the original reasons for our invasion turned out to be falsehoods this administration then started in with the "Bringing Democracy to Iraq" rhetoric..
But the clear majority in Iraq want us to leave, so if Iraq is truly a democratic state then shouldn't we honor their majority will and leave?
Shouldn't our appointed head of state there bring the matter to vote?
As the Sheite majority are calling for? And even some of the Sunni Minority factions?
This thing of being in Iraq in the same sense that we are in Korea is nonsense....As My father would say "that dog wont hunt"
The reason we want Military bases in Iraq is not to provide security for Iraqis, it's to provide security for our Oil interests and for the private sector we have imported.
we have more private security forces in Iraq than we do Military troops.
This is an experiment in privatizing other economies by Force and an experiment in Private Military adventures billed to the American tax payer.
One would think that with 2.5 million Iraqis in Refugee status and close to a million civilian casualties people would stop trying to play this tired line about how were there to "help" Iraqis or bring about security. Shit, we barely have basic water and sanitation back up for most civilians...
Lets tell the truth at last, We are there to set up shop and shoot whoever doesn't like it.
The more intellectually honest Hawks I know at least admit this, they say that having a permanent military presence in the region is Vital to our "interests" and to the interests of our "Allies" (read Israel). I applaud their frankness.
However, I don't agree with them, I think our presence is destablizing and is creating greater security hazards for our future generations . It's the people who hide our true intentions behind this falsehood of "spreading democracy" that annoy me.
If we are going to discuss the merits of this occupation we have to at least be honest about it...
McCain needs to be honest and so does Barack, both are trying to nplay to both sides at this point and talking to us like children.
We should at least rise above it and talk to each other in more honest terms.

Our mercenaries are some of the worst of the enduring clusterfock which is Iraq.

heh..Count on ol' Lyin Dan to cut right to the chase!!
Fascists are indeed afoot, but I think it takes most people a long, slow time to come to terms with this.
Would that we had such time at our disposal....que no?

"Asking "When will the troops come home?" is like a child asking "are we there yet"?
It is not the question to be asking at the moment..t"
It is if you have a loved one there. And even if you don't it is important, regardless of whether or not John McCain thinks it is.

That, Senator McCain, is context.
A new special comment by Olbermann.
I think this answers better than I could, Jeff.

Straight up. That's funny. He makes a big fuss out of that guy in Obama's VP committee for a really minor issue when his top advisor for finance (Gramm) is one of the kingpins of the mortgage crisis.
He keeps saying Obama is raising taxes but it's only to those with incomes over 250 grand.
Just think of all the benefits Americans can have when we're not spending trillions on a war that we were deceived into.
Not too important!

"town hall", what an ass..
Just like Bush he has to stack the audience too..
Fox News reported, McCain's campaign misled the public about the nature of the event. The forum was "billed by the McCain campaign as a town hall with independent and Democratic voters," but Fox News noted at the end that the audience was actually "made up of invited guests and supporters," the Democratic National Committee said in a statement.
Here is FNC's Shepard Smith breaking the news:
SMITH: "I reported at the top of this hour that the campaign had told us at Fox News that the audience would be made up of Republicans, Democrats, and independents. We have now received a clarification from the campaign and I feel I should pass it along to you. The McCain campaign distributed tickets to supporters, Mayor Bloomberg, who of course is a registered Republican, and other independent groups."
DNC Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement:
"Once again John McCain's campaign is trying to mislead the American people. Senator McCain should understand that after seven years of a President who has divided Americans and pursued a scorched earth policy full of misleading propaganda campaigns, we need a leader who understands he is the President for all Americans not just his supporters. Copying the Bush campaign model of stacking events with his prescreened supporters is not the transparency Americans are looking for. If that is Senator McCain's idea of straight talk, the American people are in for a long and disappointing campaign season."

Pah - it's all just political hogwash, a grand cover-up for the real criminals, exploiting the situation... killing and pillaging and making billions of dollars out of the tragedy of Iraq.
That's what it's really about - and that's exactly why the whole thing happened, to satisfy the greed of the greedy!
Read all about it.
