Beth, You are one gutsy lady!!! I am not sure I could do that. If I were single I probably would, but as a grandfather, I am not sure....
You know I once saw a documentary ( I am having trouble with my spelling right now...You know English as a second language..) that showed people busking from all over the world. Most of them treated it like a business, keeping books of their takings for taxation etc. and making a decent living out of it. I think is just like anything else...Location...location...location and stick to it. People get to know you and expect you to be there. It becomes part of their daily routine dropping some coins in your case...just like buying their coffee!! A bit like my song...you know the one...If I could....
Good on you Beth, keep it up!!

I've seen a lot of great buskers all over the world, or at least London, England; ontario, Canada; Nogales, Mexico & 30 of the 50 states in USA.... uh.... MANY are awesome! Some of those that are completely strung out, or alcoholics are with no skills left, are just sad...
keep on rockin'! Many would argue busking takes more courage the playing a show! -phlegm

"Many would argue busking takes more courage the playing a show!"
I think that depends on your personality Phlegm..
I enjoy the impersonality of busking and the fact you can just concentrate on the music WITHOUT thinking about 'entertaining' a crowd-talking to them between songs..
You can stop a song halfway thru and restart another busking-do what you want-More difficult to do that live..

Is playing in a cemetery the same as busking ? I do that all the time and never get any complaints but then again I never get any change either... I do it for practice, and I find that if you dress up in a chicken costume and put up a sign offering free blow jobs no one ever messes with you and you can play as long as you want with no disruptions.

They probably don't want to get pecked.
...yeah, there's a better line for that set-up, but Verity would DEFINITELY spank.

well I made a good day's pay Wednesday but worked very hard for it. Made some friends...I meet a lot of folks this way....I also sang Elijah Rock 3 times...a gospel acappella tune...I have added a few cover songs to give me more stuff to do...it's interesting to see what works for getting tips....But my first night doing this last week was amazing as I took home a very large amount of money which I don't expect to have that happen any time soon, if ever. I am getting very comfortable behind a microphone. The open mic would take forever to get comfortable behind a microphone. It is interesting when people tell me that I'm good....it is so weird...because this is the last thing I would have ever thought I would be doing!!

I'll definitely be doing this when we move to the UK. Not really something that would fit in the schedule right now. Thanks for tellin' me about your experiences as a BRAN-NEW busker! Through your trial and error over the past couple o' months, I feel like I learned stuff too, Beth! Now I don't have to learn some of these things myself, the HARD way, hopefully. So, THANKS! And keep on doin' it, if your makin' money at it. Why not? You're obviously gettin' GOOD at busking!
Thanks again for sharin' your experiences.

Well different spots are good at different times of the day...and some songs work better than others...I play some of my originals, but some of the sadder ones like "She Doesn't Understand" don't work as well...people seem to like more upbeat tunes...and my covers are working very well...so I mix them in with my originals that work. I carry around a copy of the law in Boston where we no longer need a license to perform in the street. Last week a copy told me I needed a license and made me pack up and leave. I researched it, confirmed it with City Hall, and now carry copies for the next time a policeman might tell me I need a license.
