winter colds
Well before New Years I got sick....started with post nasal drip then laryngitis so I stopped talking. Got over that, sang 3 times, and bang, another cold...been a week now...seems like a slight cough...oh how to end these colds.
Someone dropped a tissue into my suitcase when I was playing so maybe that is where the cold came from. I've been trying to eat right drink water using hot steam and cold steam....This is a disaster to say the least.
I have not played an instrument in a week...letting the hands rest too because I still have tendonitis problems and it comes back very easily.

Every give cold-eezes (sp?) a try? I sympathize. There's zinc in cold-eeze and when you feel a cold comin' on, pop a cold-eeze or two. tastes like a cough drop. good luck...

Beth you are so much the unlucky lady because you are so many time with problem. I am reading you have Winter cold and I see also these things - sore in fingers - numb hand with frets - flu - chest congesting - allergic - strains of throat - tendonitis - stage fright and one time I laugh for the big toe problem. Also for things not human you have problem like CD skip in car - paint on guitar - car key not work - problem for cart and mic stand.
I thought I had many the problem similar but never so much. My Mama is saying I am hypoconiac for this but this is real problems to see. I have the spot for all partys, I break nail too always. Every time for vacation I am sick to travel and sun is burning me. Always I buy thing and take back for something wrong. Why me I say.
You will one day not do the busking and you will be in good health I think.

Take at least 2-3 mg of Vitamine C every morning and cod liver oil as well. And drink plenty of echinacea tea and you won't catch any more colds during winter.

More like 1000 mgs of VitC, isn't it? That plus Echinacea and BComplex, and garlic, does it for me.

1000mg during warm months, I always up it during the winter and never get sick anymore.
And if it can cure polio the common cold is small potatoes.

Thanks...I went to the doctor today and got antibiotics...seems I have bronchitis....I was doing hot steam and cold steam and the doctor told me I was doing the right thing and kept it at bay...but I knew today it was getting worse...the cough was starting...so I raced in for a 4pm appt. I read that getting less than 7 hrs of sleep a night you are 3 times more likely to get a cold...so I think that contributes. I take some supplements...I used to take a lot of vitamin C and maybe I got sick less then...but I had more money for supplements then too.
It is brutally cold here in Boston, this afternoon it was 17 degrees F, could be worse; it was 7 degrees in Joplin Missouri.

I used to take lots of vitamins and maybe 5000 mg of vitamin C a day....I didn't get sick a lot, but I also got a lot of sun in the summer....this past summer I got very little sun as I was in the subway all the time...it rained a lot...I didn't not get to the beach once...so my vitamin D stores are way down, and I haven't been taking lots of vitamin C....Dr. Mercola says Vitamin D is important to prevent colds and other things...I believe him....vitamin C is great too but my budget has been so low that I have been taking fewer vitamins. I am going to read about cod liver oil...I wonder if there is a way to take it that it doesn't taste awful?

Take a tablespoon before meals, coffee, tea, ect. Hit the back of your tonge and swallow immediately, the follow up with whatever you're eating and you'll never taste it.

I would say don't bother with expensive vitamin suppliments. Spend your money on as much fruit and veg as you can. Taking grams of vitamins C just enriches you urine. Drink organe juice instead, you'll absorb more vitamin C a rates your body can use.

I agree that over-dosing on Vitamin C just enriches the urine. It's a waste. I take Cold FX when I feel a cold coming on. It puts my immune system into overdrive for a few days. Then if that doesn't do it, I take organic wild oil of oregano a few drops 3x a day. It kills everything that should n't be there.
Antibiotic won't do a thing for a cold or any virus, but the the virus has turned bacterial, then you need antibiotics.

Yeah, what it is is bronchitis...crapp building up in the bronchial area...that's why the antibiotics...I'm prone to this....the doctor said I kept it at bay well with breathing hot steam and using a cold steam humidifier in my room, but it was coming on and not going away....last year I got pneumonia. I need more sleep, eating well...I eat lots of veggies as much as I can...supplements are only in addition to the diet....I know my vitamin D stores are down as I have been awake at night, sleeping late, and spent a lot of time indoors all summer long...that's why the cod liver oil.(A and D)..plus it's got more omega 3s than regular fish oil...and you can't get those omega 3s from eating fish....

I hate bronchitus. I am also prone to it. It's impossible to sing with bronchitus. I usually get bronchial pneumonia, then the laryngitis. The only thing that has ever worked for me is a round of Cold FX, Plus oil or wild oregano and antibiotics, sleep sleep and more sleep and drink warm hot fluids until you explode, live on soup for a week, especially chicken broth. If you don't baby yourself, you'll have it a lot longer. Take the time to rest or it will just linger. Stay warm. SLEEP!!! Get some good boring movies you can sleep to. deb
