Cover songs?
I've noticed some artists have cover songs on their pages. Do we have to get some sort of special permission to do this? deb

you need to purchase a license from HarryFox.com, unless it's a public domain song like Amazing Grace or something.

Hey Debbie,
This might help: The Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency Ltd.
They have a page all about it with a pdf brochure you can download and study!

Hey Deb,
Yes as the above posts said you must apply for a reproduction copyright its called a mechanical license. This is about 20 bucks a song or so. It will allow 2,500 copies of any 1 song to be reproduced.
Please note this only allows you to record the song and distibute it. If you want to use the song in a music video or anything other than just a audio reproduction you may need additional permissions.
Good luck with your cover if you decide to go for it.
