Help re: Radio Stations
I would be very grateful for advise on how to build a radio station. I have 2. I check them regularly and listen to them. But, basically, they just sit there. You all seem to have a lot going on with your radio stations. Is there something more I can be doing? Do you put them in other places?
I spent a fair amount of time having fun building them. I was quite proud of the accomplishment as I am practically computer illiterate compared to most of you. My newer radio station is for New songs/new people and not one person has even said hello or thank you in my Shout Box. I wonder if they even realize they are on my radio. Either that or I am great at picking songs of people who have just dumped their songs off, never to revisit. I enjoy when artists write in the shout box and say hello, thanks and introduce themselves etc. It's about making friends too.
So......I am asking for advise from the more experienced radio station DJ's. How do you build a great radio station? I would appreciate all input. Thanks, deb

Hi Debbie, I know exactly what you mean but there's no magic formula for Radio popularity, you may need to be patient and keep adding. After a couple of weeks check the Station charts - go to about 150th place and see if you've made it that far yet. The higher your Station goes the more likely it will get listeners. Having a catchy title or specialising in a particular genre can attract a niche audience too.
It could be that because you are targeting NEW artists they are not sure how to use the links to your Station yet. If you are adding comments you can also add "Stop by and say Hi" that often works. Make sure you have good songs of course - you have to be hard and not just pick people who ask/beg haha! To get yourself started however it is an idea to pick a friend who has good music and you know will respond. This can often start things off in your shout box because you tend to reply and others might join in. Many very popular bands don't come to IAC every day or even week. You are learning all the time, it's all about experimenting, trying new approaches, understanding human nature, looking and listening - good luck.
But.....When all else fails...Start another Station and have some more fun!!
Cheers, Verity

Debbie,
I wouldn't worry too much about how busy your tagboard is. Often those boards fill up AFTER a station is already popular cause many show up to get on the top stations.
One idea is that you might want to start a theme station and publicize it on the pipeline here, ask for submissions.
Try some different concepts, it's hard to say which one is going to take off. I know a guy who has many stations here, he put a lot of time into 2 of them and let most of the other ones just site, but for some unknown reason, this other station he didn't pay much attention too went up to the top of the charts, so you never know.
