Musically minded
I Some times wonder why some people have the ability to play music and have such a passion for it. I was around 2 or 3 years old when my parents discovered I was musically minded, they caught me singing with the plug from the vacuum cleaner. Not long after that they bought me my first guitar, I have never looked back since.

Is it in your genes? Is it something we are introduced to? Could it be something like reincarnation? (oooohhhhh spooky)

There is no one in my family who plays music, the only ones I have heard of are great grand parents and the like.

Can any one here point out what attracted them to music for the very first time or when they were first introduced to an instrument?

Sometimes I think that there are 2 basic types of musicians. There are the ones who are almost like mathematicians. They've studied music and are great at theory and they play great too. Then there are the ones who seem to be born, natural musicians. They will learn music one way or another, with or without formal lessons. It seems natural born ones sometimes balk the formal theory. They just want to play. They're feelings are, never mind all of that boring stuff. Just give me the instrument and let me play....and they do. My husband was one of the greatest musicians I've ever met and he never took a lesson in his life. There were no musicians in his family.
I don't know. I tend to think that there are those who are just born with the natural passion for music whether they study it formally or not. It doesn't always blossom early though. I know some great self-taught musicians who didn't discover their own passions and abilities until later in life.
I think, Yes, people are born with music in their souls. Quite often, I wish I wasn't. :-) Just my thoughts on it........................:-)

I heard "I should have known better" By the Beatles on the Radio when I was 12. I did even not know who they were, but It just got to me..It was magical, maybe even Mystic! :) I was drawn to music ever since and I was bound to write and play my own material ever since. I tried lessons, they did not work for me. As for music in the Genes? I don't know, no one in my family can play or sing. I do think it is a gift bestowed on us...Most of the time when I write a song I think "Where did that come from???" :)
