Awesome performance of Lee Pardini Jazz Trio in the City Lights Theater "http://cltc.org/Jazz.htm", 529 S 2nd St, San Jose, CA 95112, (408) 295-4200
I am Dutch and living in Germany, and on a 10 days business trip through the US in San Jose. I lucky guy enjoyed an awesome performance of Lee Pardini (keys), Gus Kambeitz (bass), and Kevin Higuchi (drums) + a great guest trumpettist who's name I unfortunately forgot.
I found this excellent performance by scanning www.sanjosejazz.org
The Lee Pardini Jazz Trio (Quartet) played instrumental interpretations of Chaka Khan's music from 1979-1984 and interpretations of Michael Jackson songs. They played featherlight and so tight, full of energy with many variations that I found it unbelievable.
I was extremely happy to be there! Especially interesting to me was the variation of powerfull and fragile/filligrain play of all these musicians. They sounded more like an ensembly (as Ahmad Jamal would say), some interpretations reminded me to funky pieces of Herbie Hancock. But I don't want to label them with certain musicians names.
My advice, keep on eye on them, they are really good (and still so young!).
I whish them many many good performances and recommend anyone appreciating good instrumental Jazz to come and hear them live!
