Music as a therapy
Music can have an amazing effect on your health, wellbeing and state of mind
Verity is looking for songs that fit the brief described above. Eventually this Station could be a 'cure-all' for anyone who listens.
It would help if you could tell us how your song works in a therapeutic way. i.e enhancing relaxation, enabling escapism, sleep, controlling nerves, improving memory, moods, motivation and so on.

Rain, Rain It Poureth Down! is a really lovely song by Chandra Moon. I find it to be very "therapeutic" indeed! Give it a listen please. -M-

When I think of music as a therapy, I think about the effect it has on me when I'm working on a song. I don't know what it is about my life, and my past, that makes me feel like a life failure, a waste case, but it's something I've carried around for years. However, as I get older I find that when I'm working on a song project, all seems right in my world.

As far as songs here, my go to songs for years has been 2 of my alltime favorite indie songs that will probably never be topped.

Swingset Chain by Loquat

and No. 2 Kraft Paperbag by Sugarplum Fairies

And "hears" another simply beautiful work of art: Do You Need a Friend? by Bob Blackshear.

The Lonesome Road by Hugh Hamilton is really cool too! As are his other songs!

I’ve overcome a lot of challenges in life but have many regrets and disappointments. Expressing these feelings and memories through music is very therapeutic for me and I hope my songs resonate with others in a similar way. I work hard to infuse what I write with a sense of exhilaration that comes from owning the joys and pains of life. Someone once described my work as “happy/sad”. That being said, the artist whose work is therapeutic for me is Francesca Tamellini. Her songwriting, voice and piano playing are so intimate and vulnerable. It’s pure emotional honesty. She holds nothing back. She’s tapping into very intense feelings of loss and experience laced with a sense of redemption and hope. She has so many great songs but two of my favorites that touch me deeply are Wolf and I’m Going To Miss You When You Move To London.

Agree totally. Hard to single out a song cause they're all good but her voice totally does it for me.

Another really great one is the band Sully.

I appreciate all these suggestions and I will certainly check them out. I guess every song is therapy if you get lost in it for whatever reason but some compositions have an extra dimension that pulls at your emotional centre, that reaches that solar plexus chakra.... some songs are magic in a way you can't explain but I will try to do this because words can also be therapeutic and create a path to peace in your psyche. Thank you for the great feedback.

This is going to be hard as I realise the diversity of music choices for different individuals.
All the songs and artists recommended are great, I enjoyed listening, thank you,
However, I think there is an essential element that must be there for music to scientifically affect your brain.
The problem with lyrics in songs, they can stimulate personal thoughts as you listen and this can be distracting (for me anyway) The exception would be lyrics with a positive message or some kind of chant or the tone and presentation of the speaker.
If you ask what is the best instrument for relaxation, the piano often tops the list but percussion instruments come very high. The tribal beats, taps and warbles that were created at the very onset of music sounds, still resonate with listeners in a primordial way.
I hope I'm not going too deep into this, I just find it an interesting subject and I need music to be a saviour for me in stressful times.

Well, I want to heal, along with everyone here, yes indeed.

There's a song on the front page, "Jenny and Emily's Song" that touches on the theme, a Bryon collabro, grand groove...
