A song for all the victims of natural and man made disasters...
Following the earthquake that all but destroyed my hometown of L'Aquila just before Easter, I wanted to write a song but it did not come easily. A few weeks later this is what came out.
Don't Be Afraid
What do you think?
When you put down your head
On your pillow at night
What do you feel?
When you think of your friends
Those who are no longer here
Can you see the earth crumble?
Can you feel the tremor?
Are you afraid of the dark?
What do you feel
What do you hear
A million voices
Screaming out
Don't be afraid
There is nothing to fear
But fear itself
For strength
Comes out of despair
Can you see the shadows?
Rising from the dust
With pain, hope and sorrow
You see the embraces
You feel the bond
That comes from such despair
You can touch the fear
But you can see the resolve
That life must carry on...
What do you see?
What do you hear?
A million voices
Screaming out
Don't be afraid
There is nothing to fear
But fear itself
For strength
Comes out of despair
What do you see?
When you close your eyes
In the darkest night
What do you hear?
When you think of those
Who are no longer here
Don't be afraid
Don't be afraid
Don't be afraid
