What has this monkey been up to?
Hey folks - Alongside doing a lot of solo acoustic gigs, I've been busy, busy, busy, developing a cloud-based tool to help me manage, store and use my setlists - and, at the request of others here in SE CT, I've made it available for free to anyone who wants to use it. You can find it at MySetlist.co.
The background to MySetlist was simple - I'd got sick of carrying around a long-list of 80+ songs to my acoustic shows and picking and choosing songs. I knew I was choosing the same songs over and again, and that the 'dusty end' of the list wasn't getting played. Then I played a gig with opening for Girls, Guns and Glory and one of the other support acts was sitting managing their setlist on the notes function on their cell-phone.
The two ideas collided and within few days, I had v1.0 of the tool up on my site. Basically, you put together your whole song library, then drag-and-drop songs into a set, which is stored against a venue and date. You can update that set, or use it as a template for other shows. And, for the show, there's Gig-View which displays the set and allows you to rearrange on the fly - there's also a Print functionality for the drummers amongst us :o)
I found a nifty mic-stand mounted iPhone holder and use that, my iPhone and MySetlist to manage my shows - it's pretty cool stuff.
So, go check it out - it's free, and will remain so for as long as its commercially viable
[I'm no fan of hidden costs or bait-and-switch]
At some point in the future, I'll be developing a low-cost premium membership with higher level functionality. Also, an iPhone app will be on the cards at some point.
In the meantime, go try it - once you've got your head around how simple it is, and yet the difference it can make, you'll be hooked!
In the meantime, keep making music - you change the world a little for the better every time you do!
