The Isley Brothers, universal respect
There can't be too many music groups (or artists) formed in the 1950s who are still performing today, and with some original members.

Ronnie Isley (lead vocalist) was a founder member in 1954 and still works with younger brother Ernie (Guitars, drums, percussion) who started in the 1970s. Many Isley family members have been involved and even Jimi Hendrix used to play lead for them at one time.

The group has been cited as having enjoyed "One of the longest, most influential, and most diverse careers in the pantheon of popular music" They did Groove, Soul, Disco and Pop and plenty of 'lurve' More recently have been sampled by Hip Hop artists.

What Isley Brothers songs do you like best ? Are you a Shout fan or more Between the sheets?

I did a favorite soul songs list of 50 songs and there was one Isley Bros song included in it, it might be my favorite slow dance song of all time, it's called Living For The Love Of You.

Way too many to list here as I have been a fan of them for 60+ years. Saw them in concert here about two months ago and they still rocked the joint out. Ernie can still play that guitar the way Jimi Hendrix taught him to. My all time favorite guitar solo was on the song "Who's That Lady". A classic jam that crossed over from R&B to Top 40/Pop stations. That was a big deal in those days as it seldom happened back then. We opened for them in the early 70's on the Crenshaw Strip. Didn't meet them but they always made sure we were fed and well lubricated. That was cooler than opening for Mandril. They didn't feed us shit and the pay sucked. But yeah, the Isley's are still hot after all these years. Real music with real musicians. Gotta love it!

Much Respect,
Stoneman
