the psychedelic debut of Jimi Hendrix
I happened across this NPR broadcast today. Especially interesting to me is the way Jimi's creativity is described context with other offerings of the time and his thorough work ethic as discussed by those he worked with. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

It was very nice to see that he brought up Jimi's lyrics... Jimi has been my main influence all these years that I have played...not gonna tell ya how long...then you'd know im an old guy...lol
Yes, I agree that his very powerful guitar playing overshadowed his lyrics and singing....not to mention the fact that he was a very intelligent man....also may i mention that he was "101st Army Airborne" had to plug that cause im ex-military (Navy)myself...heehee..
Keep Jimi's Music Alive!!!
Thanks for sharing this!!!

Petty neat stuff .... guess he wasn't to fond of the military though ... the audio on the bio said he wasn't hurt in a training accident at all ... but that he claimed he was gay to get thrown out ... he he ... pretty intelligent at that !

And that would have risked a good beating in those days, as well as getting booted out................

Hey thanks for posting that-Interesting..
I think Jimi's a brilliant songwriter as well as guitarist-and i totally love his voice too-so expressive and distinctive..He's never given that much credit for that..

Agreed!! All certainly overshadowed by his passionate performances, and understandably so. He had the ability to "paint the sky" with his guitar (Star Spangled Banner...Woodstock). Assessing his own vocal ability, I heard at one point, early on, he was quoted as saying, "...well if Dylan can get away with it...", which I took as giving himself final expressive permission (damn the torpedoes) rather than a knock at Dylan. There is no doubt he poured everything he had and found into his art.
