Burnt Ice EP / Blue Grafitti CD Release - August 11th 2010
Burnt Ice EP & Blue Graffiti CD Launch
Wednesday August 11th
The Barn @ The Milton Arms, Milton Road, Portsmouth
Burnt Ice (who can genuinely claim to be Portsmouth longest running blues band!)
are launching their new eponymous EP on August 11th with a exciting event at the
Milton Barn, at the same time the lead guitarist from Burnt Ice, Andy Broad is
releasing a live CD , titled "Blue Graffiti", recorded with saxophonist Chris Shaw in
April of this year.
Burnt Ice formed in 1987 and have evolved through various lineups always featuring
the hardcore of Andy Broad on guitar and vocals; Simon Tufnail on bass and Alan
"Blackie" Blackmore on Drums. In 2009 they were joined by Martin Bird on guitar
after his return from Sweden, as Martin had previous worked with Simon and
Blackie for many years in other projects this new addition added extra energy to an
already powerful and funky combination. The new EP recorded in June 2010 reflect
this new sound and features both new original material and a few old favourites.
Chris Shaw is a highly experienced jazz and blues saxophonist and has been playing
duo gigs with Andy Broad for about a year, the combination of Andy's powerful finger
picking, foot stomping blues style and Chris' agile and sometimes screaming sax solos
has made for an exciting interpretation of the blues, this new sound was capture "by
chance" when trying out a new minidisc recorder at a recent gig. The results were
amazing and prompted the duo to create the CD "Blue Graffiti" .
To celebrate the launch of both discs Chris Shaw will be joining Burnt Ice as guest
saxophonist for the night to create a fantastic nights music. Expect a full on blues
show. Support for the evening will come from Glen & Jason Malo's tribute to
Mississippi John Hurt "Message From Avalon".
As well as launching the new CD's in style the evening will provide the perfect warm-
up to the summers season of festivals including the blues day of local event
"Southsea Folk & Roots Festival" on the August bank holiday, a solo appearance for
Andy Broad at the Bentworth Blues Weekend and culminating in an appearance at
"Festival Elouges De Blues" in Elouges, Belgium in September.
Copies of both CD's will be available to buy on the night and entrance will be only
£3.00. Tickets will be available from Burnt Ice's website www.broad.ology.org.uk or
on the door.
