Yesterday I experimented with playing my acoustic through the Behringer V-Amp I still have on loan (really must give it back soon...). Don't know why hadn't tried it before, but it worked really well. I had the output plugged into my torque 20W busking amp, (small 8 inch speaker) and got this great Lightning Hopkins type sound.
I decided to use it to record a version of 'Postcard Blues', one of my early songs with a heavy Lightning Hopkins influence. I rapidly found it wasn't going to as easy to get the sound down on the computer. Once the V-Amp was routed into the sound card rather than the little amp you could hear that horrible piezo pickup sound. I needed to get the balance with the acoustic sound I could hear naturally mixing in the room with the little speaker generated electric sound.
After about an hours and a half fiddling with mics and different routes through the mixer, I got fairly close, once I got to the song it went down in one take, (well I've been singing it for 15 or more years so if I can't get this one right there's no hope for me!)Here it is: Postcard Blues
