Cover Another IAC Artist....win a prize!
Okay, I lied about winning a prize....however, I mentioned some time back in a thread about covers that we ought to do covers of other IAC artists. No fees involved (I hope!) and it seemed to fit the community spirit. Well, with the very kind cooperation of Steve Ison, I'm "puuting my money where my mouth is" (where DID that expression come from!). I have recorded and just posted a cover of Steve's lovely "Girl on the Train". The artist name is Kurtley Covers, and I'm pleased to present it to everyone here.
http://www.iacmusic.com/songs.aspx?SongID=64200

I hope you enjoy it, I'm looking for others to pick up the torch and create more IAC Artist covers.

Thanks, Steve, for letting me do your song.

Kurt

Kurt -- sorry to say .. but that widdle tiny baby is right. There are loads of these types of COVERS here.

But baby forgot to mention that YOUR idea IS a unique one! Where we just PICK an IAC ARTIST'S song that we really like, and don't necessarily get the artist's approval --- with NO requirement of MONEY or "licensed cover" arrangement, so we can just have a free for all!

Are we brave enough as a SITE or musicians to allow it to be done Kurt's way?

WHY NOT! Anybody covering one of YOUR tunes should be a flattery in itself. I get jazzed when a phan spouts off a chorus, verse or two. Surely a COVER would be the ULTIMATE form of phlattery and should require NO prior arrangement--- just CREDIT where credit is due, RIGHT?

C'mon -- Kurt's onto somethin' revolutionary! I might actual DO a cover if there WERE NO ground rules, kind of like the above. Currently I DON'T, because I'd rather pay to record my own stuff, rather than pay somebody else a COVER licensing fee...

KURT: I'm understandin' your idea correctly, right?

CS - You are, in fact, right on! There's fun to be had in them thar hills! I asked Steve for permission, but that is my own timidity at work. Further, I would be glad to start a Covers station to support this effort. Pick a song you like, crank it up, revolutionize somebody else's tune!

Its a fabulous version Kurt-a real re-invention,but still totally intuitive-sounds like it could've been written like that..and i've had it in my head all day! Will prob play it myself this way when i play live ever to breathe some new life into it..
I wouldn't've cared whether i was asked or not to be honest-as long as i was credited as writer..
Am just hugely flattered that someone's covered my song...:)

btw...Did you hear it straight away as a 4/4 when you chose to cover it?

As long as we're talking about covers.:
I have a streaming mixtape of me covering others and BEING covered by others!

By the way, if anyone wants to cover me, just let me know and give me credit. I would be flattered.

Hugh: wanna take a stab at "Wasted Time"?
;-)

And does anyone want to try to take on "Ashes On the Water"?

If I had the means to do so at home, I would take a stab at a few of y'all's songs. Someday I will.

Steve, It's funny how this evoled...I heard it in 3/4 but when I started playing the song, i just slipped into 4/4. It felt right, so that's the way it went. I'm thrilled that you like this rendition, for anyone who listens, please also listen to Steve's original. The real fun is in the difference!

Kurt
