In the True Spirit of the Season...
...are you doing something to make life a little better for someone else?
I'm not talking about Christmas or Channuka or any particular religious event, although God knows that the original meanings have been lost to the almighty dollar. But the the spirit of giving and sharing should not be lost. Should it occur year 'round....of course, but having a time to focus attention on these acts is equally important.
My own contributuns in this area are small, but sincere...I've tried to be consistently generous to the old beggar lady who works the alley near my home in Shanghai. I have no idea what her past was that brought her to this point in life, to be honest I don't care. If I can bring a little comfort to her through modest donations, then that is enough for me.
On a more extravegant, and frivalous note, I purchased a rather lovely guitar for the daughter of a co-worker, simply because he had mentioned her desire to play the guitar. I've never met the young lady, and probably never will, but it seemed like a nice thing to do, to bring a little surprise and unexpected joy to someone. I hope she enjoys the guitar, learns to play well, and perhaps remembers the act of kindness when she becomes an adult, maybe passing the same type of kindness along in her life.
So that's my holiday story for 2008, I wish all of the fine people here at IAC a warm and joyous holiday, and a prosperous new year. Let's all bring out great new tunes in 2009!
Kurt
