Of Live Horns, Dead friends and the mortality of the musician ....Will his music live on?
Okay, a while back there were a couple of tunes being discussed and the converstion seemed to hang on the merits of Live Horns vs. well intentioned synth'd horns. I didn't have a cockroach in that race, so I let it pass on by, But I remenbered it and thought I would contribute in some small way to the dicourse.
Additionally, I wanted to honor the underrated vocal skills of the late, and I think great, Barry Neal, from Meriden CT. Barry was a good friend, a fine singer, and he had a presence that lent itself to being on stage. The man had power and couild deliver the goods when called upon to do so.
I have uploaded two songs that feature both Barry Neal on lead vocal, but also live horns supporting him along the way. THe first, "First Time" has a really lively sax solo provide by a fine young man named Jason Malli. Back sax and trombone are Leon Conte and Jeff Lorrello.
THe second song, "You & Me" Hilights Barry's song styling skills with a horn section providing backin to the leads. It a vocal tour de force, I hope you like the offerings,
.
And finally, the issue of mortallity. Most of us will go to the greater reward without ever having the accolades laid upon us for our musical contributions, But will our music truly live on after us? I for one hope that this occurs. Music has been a major part of my life since I was 5 or 6 years old, and will accompany me to my grave.
So tell me your take on the fates, and if you can, grab a listen to my old friend Barry Neal rakin' a couple of our tunes.
Thanks,....Kurt

...ah yes, I remember when this song (You and Me) was born, started out on the old "Armand" piano then recorded in our basement - I used to pick Barry up for practice and recording, he had no car, or phone.

Dear Holo, I take that back - you can do better than that... Kurt would most assuredly take exception to "her" being referred to as a "fling"......she "makes him smile", afterall...
she IS 39 years younger than he is though. Sugar-Grand-pappy perhaps?
...and Dear C.S. (can I just call you pHLeGm?), gotta say again that he'd disagree with the fling thing..... ya don't want to piss him off.... I don't care if I do though....
....whatever you'd like to know, ask me about his NEW HAIR - pretty FF! ;)
