Back to Mono
Which is the name of that album by Spector, but this is not on that as I found his wall of sound sort of annoying most times, but when mixing, is there really a tool as powerful as turning on your mono switch and turning the volume down low low?
I mean, if you don't hear the things you want to hear in that state, they likely won't be quite right in the loud stereo state either.
It really makes me listen hard and get things balanced. Then it's like a treat to turn it up and put it in stereo and it is always better than what I was getting mixing louder and in stereo. Puts my mind on the right things. It's not as pleasant and fun to hear, but it gets the mind focused on things beautifully so that when I turn it back up and put it in stereo, it surely is fun and pleasant then.
