What Kind of Fool Am I?
Here is a solo version I did for Mom's 80th. I think the chord changes and melody are as brilliant as music gets. If it's not ok to post soundcloud here, I will take it down, or moderator can strike it with lightening right away.
I use a couple AT 2020s held at exactly a right angle to each other, one favors voice and one favors guitar. No phase issues.
Guitar is Gibson j100, a jumbo, and I've got it tuned down two whole steps, so the bass reonance is as dark as it gets- a sound of which I'm fond. I don't have the tune memorized, the changes are way tricky, but this is how well I knew it with my charting by the time of her birthday, and I like the recording.

Bob,
There isn't a hard and fast rule about not embedding from other sites, it does insult us some though. Because at sites like that the streaming is lower quality, not sure if you know that?

Very useful comment for me, Glen. I tend to think of the way I do most standards as the rhythm of Billy Holiday's band, how they bump along on all four beats. That just comes natural and I allow myself to not worry about tricking it up because it was good enough for Billy's crew and now that you mention it, that's the Armstrong swing to, and I guess some of his vocal thing is stuff that comes out of me. I love him.
These songs are so trick I just try to hang on and allow my voice and hands to falli into the most comfortable place.
