Tricky Thing About Picking ‘Julia’
Lennon alternates thumb A string, D string, E string, D string no matter what chord he plays. No big deal, right? Except it’s so strange to do that when you play the many chords whose roots are on the E string like the Em, G, Gm7,G9,A 7bar, F9,Fm7...
My brain automatically wants to shift the thumb to start on the root at the E string for all those. Interesting that he doesn’t. I’m getting the hang of it, but it’s surprising how ingrained my approach to those chords is with no thought about it at all.
