McCartney, Red Rose Speedway and Band on the Run
So it gets harder and harder for me to pick out classic albums for my daughter that I haven't got her already. But it hit me the other day when "Let me Roll It" showed up in my brain over and over: she doesn't have and ha never heard either of these two albums! Yowza! We try to outdo each other with bringing out classics we don't already have, so this time I figured I was in pretty good shape. She and my older son play "Ram" to death.
Was kinda hard to find. Had to go to Amoeba records in San Fran. But that's okay, she lives right there on HAight, so I got those for her for her birthday.
Direct hit. She says she's been stuck on Red Rose Speedway for days.
But here's the thing. I hadn't heard these albums for years and years, and it was so weird when I put them on how I knew all the words and all the melodies. Like there lodged there in the chemistry of your brain since your childhood, probably (seeing as McCartney is a melodic genius) influencing much of what I write, but never brought up to consciousness, and then you hear them and it's all right in the front.
Anyway, those are two very cool albums. Band on the RUn is clearly the slicker of the two, but Red Rose Speedway is packed with gems. My kid is stuck on "Single Pigeon."
But she wa floored by "My Love." And what a thing to present: Hey, did you know there are some classic hits by McCartney you never even heard yet?
This girl has heard most everything.
I trp on how cool the song "Band on the Run" is. Just so fun.

Funnily enough i just purchased both of the albums this year for the first time.
I had a paul mccartney month when i purchased everything from mccartney 1 to Flowers in the dirt. Both myself and my son play them so often and what a joy it is . I love all the beatles as much apart as when they were together. I rember john saying in 1971 "If you want the Beatles so much just take a track of me, a track of Paul, a track of George and a track of Ringo and put them together. I did that and it sounds amazing. Am I sad, no I just love the music.

Right on Raymond. A couple things, how old is your boy?
Also, how do you like those two albums? ANything that grabs ya?
Of course you must have the Cherries album and Ram? Great albums.
I also love Plastic Ono Band by Lennon
All Things Must Pass is pretty great on a lot of it. Apple Scruffs is a cool tune.
