Sometimes these blogs seem like a contest to see who can be the wittiest, and most sarcastic
I don't contribute a lot to the blog posts here, unless something hits a nerve, or sparks interest. The trend lately seems to be: who can be the snarkiest? I've always considered it bad Karma to insult, or belittle other artists, especially in public. That seems to be the format of many posts on this site. And the bickering never stops. I personally have found that the most sarcastic people, are usually the most insecure. In order to elevate their self image, some resort to outright insults, and personal jabs. I'm growing weary of the meanspirited no holds barred approach to our communication with one another....Why can't we just get along?

hey, I am with ya there. but it is more to keep it on the edge and a lot of the times it is done in fun as a number of artists here as well as anons are well known to us who have figured them out.....so dont despair, most times it is all in good fun, but sometimes yes there are some downright reckless comments made here and rather then people staying on the subject matter there can be those personal attacks made and that is not a good thing. We would not do it if we were in a room together discussing one on one or in a group, it just seems to break down on blogs because it is so impersonal, and it is also a fact we do live in an impersonal world too
so I see your concern

I'm not sure why you think there's anything wrong with being witty, although I see no humour in your post so maybe you have a different interpretation and as Bryon says, what may seem rude and sarcastic coming from a friend or well known character can be most entertaining, after all that's why we are here, to entertain and socialise.
We aren't just posting cliched, politically correct threads or promoting ourselves all the time, we try to stimulate a little debate and sharing. I f you think this place is bad then you really haven't seen how bad BBs can be. The majority of contributors here are courteous, articulate and refrain from bad language, it's almost impossible to even get a bad review here.
I actually can't understand where you are coming from, unless I have missed something in the last few days. I am a moderator here (or I was) and quite frankly there was very little to do.

Fair enough! It's obviously my problem, but I can't help the way I feel. You don't agree, I disagree, blah, blah, blah. Most people here are decent. I'm not trying to discredit IAC, or it's members...jeez, now I feel like a jerk for giving my opinion! Suffice it to say that I am not in the best frame of mind right now (like you), and probably not as objective as I can be. I know what I like, and don't like. I don't like meanspirited sarcasm...so sue me! [sic].

Perhaps in the past there were some very bitter banters that got personal and out of control, but as Jilly pointed out the moderators have addressed that type of thing
We live in an era of free speech and so most anything goes, within reason...if it becomes a personal attack that strays from the issues and leans towards ripping a personality or individual who disagrees with you on a matter, then that is indeed uncalled for, but if it is saying how a persons music totally sucks and why and there are suggestions to improve in areas of production or such, well then that is not attacking the person, but what they have created and it has actually helped some of us here to perhaps improve our craft...
But yes at times there have been radical, ripping, ridiculously raunchy and rash things responded to
It is fun to goof off once in awhile and be silly. witty and wild........the beat goes on

abuse and put downs are part of the territory in almost every blog site I visit
didn't we have a world leader who was abusive to other cultures, and lied to the world???-----he gave all the angry haters out there a license to speak with authority about their bottled up anger,----- but we won't go there !

I stopped posting here for a long time after someone insulted me big time...it is a person who insults everybody and that is why they are here and it is too bad we have people like that on here....and these people remain anonymous so nobody knows who they are....hmnmmm I blog somewhere else and there are never nasty comments posted belittling people in the most nasty way. I wonder why people would get their kicks this way....belittling others...surely to boost up their poor thoughts of themselves maybe....but I have found that for me I just exited this forum for a long time.

Personally, I enjoy blogs where there is some friction going on. Sometimes the silly insults are so ridiculous that it would be impossible to be insulted. I'm entertained by most of it. I'm not one to start a fight or argument, although it has happened once or twice if it's something I feel strongly about.
Only certain things will anger me enough to start swinging red faced fuming and foaming at the mouth and that would be racist or misogynist remarks or jokes, homophobia etc.

Well Todd, I have to say, I dont know what happened to that Bluto creature
he has seemed to have lost the edge and slice and dice it once had, and the sarcastic swipes he would administer
now Bluto shows up and just is , well too normal and nice...kinda boring.

Until the last few days I was the owner of a music community website, which had a forum.
THIS place is about as friendly a place as your ever going get online, where users can either have annonimity, or live too far away from each other to worry about meeting someone in the street they've recently insulted.
On HERE, 99% of all the comments I've had have been great, and those who dissagreed with my opinions did so with either intelectual debate or good humour.
Never forget that it gets REALLY BORING, if everyone agrees all the time...............
What would be the point of posting?

It didn't close.
After two years of building it up, (it was a music community site targeted to promote a fairly small geographic area) I passed it on to a small group of people who have the resources to take it on to the next level.
Have a look.
The online forum is now alsmost dead as the only way we could handle it - was to almost kill it off!!

I agree with ya, but compared to other places? I don't see a LOT of what you are talking about... A Little of it, but not a lot at all!
I've been in BBSs where you were lucky if you survived the day without being shat upon by a troll. Now there is actually only one troll here in "reality" - And the exist only to give Holo something to laugh at, really.
Usually between myself and the few people here I like to talk to a lot, you'll "see" some of this jabbing you are referring to, but if ya look close, it is affectionate, not hostile.
There really isn't that much hostility in MOST of the people who frequent The Pipe-"Slime" - See, I'm doing it, a-haha. When I like someone or something I'll make up an alternate spelling of their title or name.
But, all in all, I think we get along here rather well, and when someone here has a tale to tell, you can be sure it is seriously "listened" to.
