I don't know how they are rated, but they are my top five and a very large part of my iTunes playlist.

Weirdly i listened to them for the first time in about 5 years today (on a youtube playlist where i'd added maybe 7 of their songs )..
They're very good at what they do..Expressing alienation, loss, disconnection, depression and pain..There's no doubting tracks like Everything Is In Its Right Place and Pyramid Song have a haunting beauty, power and an obvious strong and intense creativity and i appreciate them as works of art.....But joy, charm, warmth, exhuberance, friendliness are not really on their agenda - and those are the vibes i want to find for my own music -so basically they don't really offer me what i want..Too much exposure to them i find depressing..So i tend to avoid them -but (much like Jeff Buckley who i've got similar issues with ) appreciate as artists from a safe distance

That's a great perspective, Steve.
Jeff Buckley is up there with Radiohead for me.
Go figure, haha.

They are a very good band. Just not as good as everybody seems to think they are.
At least, not from my angle.
So yeah, I guess that's the definition of overrated.

I like a couple of their songs. Have also seen some of their performances on TV that were tremendously overblown, where there wasn't much of a song there to bother with.
