Do you consider yourself an artist?
or do you prefer the term "artiste"?

I am a musician, songwriter, producer and vocalist. But only the people van decide if what I do is art. I think it is but I am very biased about my work. Of the terms I like Artist the most.
Much Respect

ARTIST = a person whose creative work shows sensitivity and imagination.
However if you say you are an "artist" everyone assumes you paint pictures
ARTISTE = a professional performer in an artistic discipline
However, the term is kinda arty farty and it's Frenchish, people who call themselves an "artiste" are doing it tongue in cheek out of embarrassment I think.
You don't need to be artistic to produce a song, more likely amateur musicians are piss artists and professional ones are con artists
But that's just the considered opinion of a cognoscente !

When not in the studio,
I consider myself a baked potato.
When in the studio, definitely an Artist.
The other one is soooooo douchey sounding,
who even wants to call themselves that?
Can you imagine it. Even saying it to someone?
"Oh hello what do you do?"
"I am an Artiste"
"Oh.... so how long have you been a douche then?"
Right now, I consider myself late for the studio, coming boys....
