Yeah, but in the beginning they did have some nifty licks. Witchy Woman had a lot of cool stuff in it.
Wal-Mart is welcome to them now.

They have a lot of great music. Today's Country "Pop" is essentially what the eagles were doing thirty years ago, so I have to give them props. They have excellent harmonies, and their musicianship primarily on guitars is top notch. Henley, Frey, Walsh... They have a sound, and that sound is still relevant.
Overrated? I don't think so...they made their mark and are standing the test of time.

Jeff and Phlegm, I am in total agreement with both of you. The Eagles are one of my major influences and I have loved them since I was little.
I recently purchased a DVD of the Eagles at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne and it is absolutely awesome musically, artistically and technically. They are masters of their craft.

I am not a big fan.
And, to the point of today's country artists doing what they were doing, that is true... but Gram Parsons and The Byrds were doing it first.
That said, their music has stood the test of time and it still being appreciated today as much as it ever has. So, once again Trashey, you're just kinda squawking. Although I have come to find a certain charm in that, as you are bringing up conversations that are interesting to read. So... good on you!!!
PS - Give me solo Joe Walsh and James Gang stuff any day!!!

I'm not a fan either-Tho i love Take It To The Limit-and its kinda weird expansive strangecountry vibe.. One of these nights is pretty good too i guess..
Hotel California is actually a great song, but has just been totally murdered by saturation overplaying on radio-to the point i really don't ever, ever want to hear it again...

I hear you Steve.... The oversaturation, "Overplayed" aspect was brought up about another artist as well.
I cannot look at this as a negative as its not the fault of the artist if they get overplayed. Every great song will get annoying if played over and over...
There are no exceptions. If I like a song or artist, I make it a point to listen sparingly so I can continue to appreciate it.
On the other side, some songs cannot be appreciated until you have heard them a few times. There are many songs upon first listen I have totally dismissed and disliked, but when I have had time to hear them a few times they usually grow on me. There is a law in economics "dimninishing returns" I think you can apply it to songs. The songs cease to grow on you, and wither and die if they are oversaturated.

"Desperado" ranks amongst my top three favorite albums of all time. It's about as near perfect an album as it gets. It's right up there with "Abbey Road" IMO, one of the other top three ... and ... I dunno -- something by Steely Dan ... but I always vacillate between which one on which day I like best ...
From there, the Eagles hit and missed ... some stuff out of the park ... other stuff pure filler.
And that has continued on to this day.
