Classical Music _ Overrated?
Yes.
To start out with, the masters are so unimaginative that they can't even give their songs real names. It's always something like Prelude in B flat minor or something like that. How bland.
Indie classical artists are ever worse. They're still doing versions of these same songs written in 1492.
Anybody who uses a tympani in a song is obviously desperate.
In conclusion, Beethoven was deaf. I rest my case.

A great classical album is The Planets by Gustav Holtz the first real indie musician no formal training worked in a dull as ditch water job but came up with a seminal piece that in my opinion has never been surpassed. In fact this is the planet suites 90th birthday 1918

Sounds like you've never checked out Stockhausen (20th-century classical). The Beatles were greatly influenced by him and he appears on the Sgt Pepper cover.
In the 50's he was very active at the Center For Experimental Music in Cologne, Germany, during which time he released Gesang Der Jungling, which was completely electronic, tape loops, etc.. This is what inspired Lennon's Revolution #9.
I guess what I'm saying is that especially in music, so much is interconnected and intertwined.

Amadeus Rocks!!!
Serious prodigy...composing and playing instruments as a child.....His Music is still relevant today...he was a Rock Star in his day.
I listen to classical music often, it actually got me through college as I studied to it. They have done studies and it does improve Brain function...no Shit. :)
Love Classical music, If you ever have the chance to see a full symphony live, I recommend it...It is a site to behold. Especially when the string section gets moving.
Classical music overrated? Hell no! Those cats were musicians and great composers...they read music, they wrote symphonies by hand, arranged string parts, horn parts, and yes timpani strikes! The majority of Musicians today learned by ear, and many can't read or write music...hell, most have no clue what they are playing.
The classical composers were the real deal...Beethoven? He knew his shit so well he did not need ears...After he lost his hearing, he knew what the notes sounded like, and how to communicate his vision within the staff. Hell yea ! Classical is just a word... "Classic" What does Classical music really mean? Its Great music, in any era.

I guess the cost of rehersing an orchestra keeps indie classical composers just dreaming of the chance of hearing their own stuff played....

HAHAHAHAHAHHAAA! That's the funniest post I've ever read.
The tympani line is classic.
Remind me never to play one lest I be labeled desperate.
HAHAHAHAA!
You are so funny.
PS Answer to your original question. Sorry I got distracted,
HELL no. Not overrated.
Get lost in the deaf guy's number 9.
Enjoy.

I love classical music, but just like pop music, OR any music for that matter, some songs get played out.
It's best when you get to hear a mix of rare pieces (like Stravinsky or the like) WITH many modern & post-modern classical (like Phillip Glass) -- so you don't get bored by the same riffs....

by no way is classical music overrated!
listen to Satie's wonderfully ethereal "gymnopédies", for a change 8-)
btw, the Soundtrack for Sophie Coppola's movie "Marie-Antoinette" had classical as well as modern music on it: great
