Any Island music at IAC?
I love all Island music, it's full of emotion and tradition but Hawaiian is the best of course.
Before the missionaries came to Hawaii the only music we had was rather non melodic, more of a religious chant. They brought us influences from Europe and now we are known Worldwide for our beautiful melodies.
We are also thankful to our monarchy for their part in Hawaii's musical history. Our Royal family in the 19th century were all musically gifted. They composed songs that mixed the emotions of Hawaii with the melodic tunes of Europe, producing a body of popular songs that are still favorites today. Queen Liliuokalani composed more than 100 songs including the famous "Aloha Oe".
We have a young generation who play the same music as every other young generation, but there is still a respect for our traditional melodies and styles.

We live in the South Pacific----many islands!!!!
plenty of good music abounds from Samoa, Tonga, and the Maori music in New Zealand here is awesome----
---but we europeans----- pakehas (or palangi) have been making island music too (with Maori influences)
It's refreshing and crosses stereotypes of race and religion
